Beauty gifts for young teen

DD is almost 13. She has a Christmas list which includes Mac, urban decay, benefit etc. (I blame YouTube!) I don’t really want to spend huge amounts but I do want to get her somethings. Has anyone got any recommendations of what I should look at?

Don't buy Mac. They're not cruelty free. Too Faced are very good and popular as is Anastasia Beverley Hills, Milk, Kat Von D.

Bobbi Brown used to do a great 'teen make-up' book, not sure if they still do, but might be a nice addition to a make up gift. Also when buying my young teen DD makeup also bought her the stuff to take it off - makeup remover, cleanser etc

You could book her a Mac makeover (think they start at about £20) whatever it costs is redeemable on products so she could choose something. As someone else said Mac isn’t cruelty free though

Benefit do minis of some their stuff, think it’s 3 for £25 at boots. Also not cruelty free.

Too faced, kat Von d and Anastasia Beverly Hills all popular and lovely products (Anastasia eye shadows I find the best, ever) but pricey.
NYX products are good and cheaper. Boots are selling gift sets too this year and they look nice. Their drop foundation £14 is fab, and better than my Mac one.

Make up is so personal though and something that depends on colouring, skin type etc. I’d take her shopping and let her have a look and play, there’s no point choosing something because it’s trendy and it not suiting or working for her.

No, nothing specific. She did mention the too faced sweet peach palette but I think that’s mostly because it’s smelly. Novelty, but expensive grown up novelty 😂

What about a beauty advent calendar? I bought DD the Superdrug Revolution one last year and it built up a fairly varied make up kit. I have my eye on either the Sleek one from Boots or House of Fraser for her this year. All about £25 I think.

For a teen, definitely something from Benefit. The gifts are usually very good value. Have a look on the QVC website for deals.

Mac Soft & Gentle highlighter is popular, as is Benefits They're Real mascara. Maybe get her one thing from the brands so she got what she asked for but generally I think they're overpriced. The Mac makeover is a nice idea.

I have the sweet peach palette and it’s lush! You’ve got me looking now op and I’m loving the new peaches and cream range. I’m definitely adding things to my Xmas list now.

They currently have 15% off their chocolate range, if your DD likes the novelty aspect and yummy smells. They do a mini chocolate and white chocolate palette, both are quite nice starter palettes. Their melted Matt lipsticks are really popular too and lovely.

My teen DD has a few bits from 'too faced' and loves them all, she's after a highlighter palette from 'soph' (only available at superdrug) another you tuber, I'm delighted to see said palette is only £8, I might get her a few other items from this range too.

No the too faced palette is awful, don’t bother. It looks cute but the actual palette and the shades aren’t great - you’ll find that she will end up barely using it and you’ll feel like you wasted your money

If you want a eyeshadow palette try Urban Decay Naked Heat, Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance or Huda Beauty Rose Gold

If you can’t decide what to get her, give her a Selfridges etc gift card so she can chose? It might sound like a cop out gift but it’s really not, she’s feel like she’s in a candy store and get to explore and play with the products, she’ll love it

W7 do some dupes of urban decay eyeshadow palettes, if you’re dd was wanting to recreate looks of YouTube? And they are only a couple of quid.

My DD is 15.6yo and loves KatVonD, Too Faced, Urban Decay.
When she was first getting into make-up I bought her Sleek .
Really good colours, good dense coverage, priced very well.
Only downside is the black packaging (which looks good) is a 'mare to open.


Buy her brushes. A set of Real Techniques (or two ) usually on offer.
Makes putting on the make-up far easier.

And a cleanser to remove it all .

I would ask DD to list specific products she would like. My DD likes their little kits for eyes etc.

My DD also loved urban Decay but actually used those kits/pallettes less as the colours were brighter and not so neutral. MAC was her choice of brush. It used to annoy me how expensive they all were but she still has her MAC brushes built up over years and takes very good care of them. In her early 20's she still likes Benefit kits!
