Do you wear valuable jewellery on a daily basis

I'm just starting to ponder what is the point of keeping jewellery for special.

Life's short. Should the valuable (and in this case, sentimental) items be locked in a jewellery box, or should they be seeing the light of day?

I'm on two minds, nothing is likely to happen to it when it's safely stored, but also, it was given to be worn.

How do you decide?

Wear it.

Paintbox · 19/10/2017 13:49

Wear it

mowglik · 19/10/2017 13:50

I do

Kelsoooo · 19/10/2017 13:53

Wear it. All of it. There is no special occasion. Life is a special occasion.

confused123456 · 19/10/2017 13:54

I do. I'm a big jewellery person. I feel naked without it.

thefrightnightmanageress · 19/10/2017 13:59

Wear it!

I wear expensive jewellery on a daily basis - alternating everything bar 2 rings. And I enjoy looking through my jewellery cases every day picking out what to wear.

Today is a simple yellow gold and diamond day. Tomorrow I'll be wearing navy so expect I'll be bringing out an Edwardian moonstone and sapphire necklace and sapphire earrings.

I always wear mine, it seems pointless to be locked in a jewellery box, and they would never see the light of day if they waited for me to take them out for a posh do!

I was told by a jeweller that on you (your fingers, if rings), is the least likely place for jewellery to be stolen.

Just make sure that your rings fit well, can't slide off etc. Don't take rings off for washing up (unless they have soft stones in them). Keep them on at all times. I have done everything in mine, swimming in the pool and sea, washing up etc and they are just as pretty as the day I got them.

I have had nice jewellery for 6 years now (since a big birthday Grin) and it makes me smile every time I look at my hands.

MrsPestilence · 19/10/2017 14:02

Make sure you can't lose it by checking your fastenings are secure.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 19/10/2017 14:28

Thanks all. Seems yo be pretty much a consensus. Smile

Interested in the comment about he item being safer on your body. I think that is my feeling too.

I'm going to embrace wearing it. Tbh I do look at it and smile when I see it.

I was wondering if anyone was going to chirp blithely in with "yes I wear my £50,000 ring on a daily basis"! But I guess value is all relative.

Gosh MrsP, that's a bit of a cautionary tale!

The most valuable item for me is a ring, and it's quite a struggle to get over my knuckle, but very comfortable when on, so I'm convinced it's not going to slip off inadvertently.

I have expensive diamond stud earrings which i wear all the time. I never take them out except to clean them periodically. I swim in them, sleep in them - they are just there. They are fabulous. Why wouldn't i wear them!

torthecatlady · 19/10/2017 14:47

I wear most of my jewellery on a daily basis (I agree about everyday being a special occasion), however I do have some jewellery which I inherited which I do not wear for a couple of reasons, one being that it's not my style and two being that if I did lose it I would never forgive myself. I do look at it every day though.

Piccolino2 · 19/10/2017 15:17

Yes go for it. I have quite a few nice pieces and wear them all the time. Diamond earrings at soft play, why yes! Life is short. They are only thing. Enjoy them.

LapinR0se · 19/10/2017 15:27

Every day I wear my engagement, wedding and eternity rings which are worth about £20k. I also wear my £5k diamond studs daily.
I have very expensive pearls but I don't wear those very often as I'm not always in a pearly mood!

Herschellmum · 19/10/2017 15:51

Please wear them!

As someone who got burgled the week before last and had every piece of jewellery stolen, please do wear them and enjoy them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/10/2017 15:54

My engagement ring, even though I've not been engaged in years, its a beautiful ring.
My expensive watch, no, because I like to save it for special occasions.

Damn @MrsPestilence got there before me Smile

DarthMaiden · 19/10/2017 17:10

Yes I do.

I’m very fortunate to have been bought a lot of beautiful Tiffany jewellery over the years by DH.

I wear some of it every day.

I also wear my Cartier watch every day.

They are lovely things and I think it’s sad for them to sit in a safe only to be worn for special occasions.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 19/10/2017 19:29

I wear my v expensive Tiffany engagement ring every day even though I split from him 4 years ago so on my right hand

rightknockered · 19/10/2017 19:30

Yes I do, especially if it has sentimental value, was given to me by someone special.

BloodSplatteredFangs · 19/10/2017 19:39

Yes, always. They are insured and I would miss them if I lost them or they were stolen but at least they are enjoyed whilst I have them.

I don't have that much expensive jewellery unfortunatley (I'm only early thirties though so hoping that might change over the years!) what I do have i wear daily, eternity wedding and engagement ring, diamond studs. Love them all.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 19/10/2017 20:40

I wear it unless it's particularly aged and not able to withstand much- then it's only for 'special occasions'.

If you are going to wear your jewellery all of the time- do make sure you're insured for personal possessions cover away from the home.

I've seen so many claims where people have lost a diamond stud whilst out or similar and it's not covered because they've not opted in for this cover.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 19/10/2017 20:42

It's also worth taking pictures of your jewellery. Both as proof of existence for insurers but also so that jewellers can source a replacement.

Oh and don't accept the vouchers for a chain store jewellers from the insurer- total ripoff. Use your usual jeweller.
