Please help me find a dress quickly for my 40th

Party is in 10 days but living abroad so would need to get it shipped.

I'm 5ft6, size 8, shortish blonde hair.

Trying to steer clear of:
- black and navy (because I'm really pale and a bit scraggy and it looks draining)
- bodycon type dresses
- v-necks (too bony)

Would like a knee-length dress but everything seems to be mid-thigh and I feel a bit old for that. I like a bit of sparkle.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, ladies

This would look lovely on a petite figure like yours.

Just trawled JL and quite liked the look of these. All feedback gratefully received. Party isn't super smart i.e. Some folk will be casual but I think I'll feel comfortable in a proper party dress as it's my birthday IYSWIM

And I like the style of this but would prefer it not to be black.

OOh, cross post mrs will look at your ideas now. Thank you!

I really like both those ideas, mrs

I couldn't quite get a sense of the fabrics (Climate is quite hot where I am). but will have a look on a proper screen when I'm home. Thanks again

As you say some people will be casual and it is hot, my pick would be the warehouse one you found. The skirt will probably feel a bit swishy too which is always fun!

What country are you in OP? Is it Australia? I'm there too.

The Warehouse one is lovely. Also the Whistles one comes in green as well as black.

I'm in Hong Kong mrs

I kind of like the idea of trying one of these 50s fit and flare type dresses but I've never worn one of them before

And I think this one looks quite fun
but the 'prom' reference makes me think it's aimed at 18-year-olds not 40-year-olds...

Bitzer Wed 11-Oct-17 08:22:15

Or this one, but more prom references. Also, wonder if it's a bit starchy and formal for a party at home

The teal dress is a bit matronly, I think. I liked the pineapple one and the silver one.
