I have a funeral to attend and can't decide what to wear. I do have a black trouser and black and white high neck top that i have previously worn to a funeral but not sure if I would prefer to wear a dress.
Is this dress too short?
Any suggestions for a suitable black dress that is not too expensive.

I'd say it's perfect, it's a lovely length.

It's longer than the dresses worn by several attendees at the last funeral I went to.

I admit to being a bit cats bum face about some grandchildren (late teens and early 20s) being dressed like they were going clubbing when they were at their Grandma's funeral.

Sorry for your loss and apologies for being flippant. How tall are you? If you are shorter than the model it might look a bit longer on you. Also might look a bit less 'leggy' if worn with opaques?

I'm not sure really. Depends how tall you are, what else you wear with it. Also be aware that it might ride up when you sit down.

Any suggestions of shoes to wear with it? I already have black velvet wedges that I can walk comfortably in or would they look silly. I struggle to walk In high high heels and have narrow feet so find some strapped shoes slip.

I think it is fine for a funeral i once saw a woman in a bright blue/black bodycon dress with full cleavage my eyes fell out my head 😲

To be honest, I don’t think that’s appropriate for a funeral at all. Length is too short - not terrible on its own, but the combination of sleeveless and the lace makes it look both cheap and very informal. Suburban nightclub, yes; funeral, no. Sorry to be harsh, but I’m being really honest. I’d hope that someone would be similarly candid with me.

It's not the length, it's more the lace and the style that would make me say no to that for a funeral.

I wouldn’t consider it appropriate funeral attire either.

The length is fine, but I also don’t see it as appropriate for a funeral and see it more as an evening dress, which I think it is.

For funerals think formal interview wear, except in black and you can’t really go wrong.

Sorry don't think it's appropriate.

It will flap about as well and make you conscious of it blowing up.

You'll be up the front as well.

Sleeves and below the knee

Agree 100% with Bluntness re: interview attire.

Right I've crossed that one off the list
Back to the drawing board. This one is similar, but also has lace so I'm guessing it's a no too.
I think I'll try a different website as all the ones I like either have lace, are body con or are in their plus size range which is too big sadly as they had some lovely formal dressed.

What about a simple black wrap dress? You could wear in for a funeral, work, interview, posh dinner out...

Still with the lace.

I'm looking on asos too for you.

The lace is attention grabbing.

Yes that's perfect. Where from? Black opaque. Low heels. Simple, classy

I think the second dress you posted would be perfect! (I really would avoid skater dresses of all types - too short/informal for a funeral.)

I think the first dress is absolutely fine. There's no cleavage or too much leg on show, just a bit of lace around the neckline Confused

Yes to the last dress, simple, elegant &!classy & you can dress it up/ down to wear again

PieOnEar · 04/10/2017 16:53

Just wear black.

Are you honestly trying to look stylish for a funeral? Going to take selfies or something?

Report
foodiefil · 04/10/2017 16:54

Sorry @Brazenhussy0 what were you saying? 😂

Report
Bubblysqueak · 04/10/2017 16:55

No but I don't usually wear black and as I don't attend funerals often am unsure of etiquette. I don't want to turn up in something inappropriate but also don't want to look like I can't be bothered.

Nobody will care what youre wearing. Its a funeral. People will be mourning the dead, not looking at you.
