Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

I have just swapped as well. I am struggling to like the smell as much as shower gel and don't like the mess soap makes but I agree re feeling clean and much less sweaty/smelly.

I just need to find one I like the smell of-I don't like simple or imperial leather.

TK Maxx always have a fab selection of soaps.

I tend to 'acquire' the soap bars from hotels and use them at home. I much prefer soap to shower gel, always have done.

I really recommend dove soap. Love it.

I've done the same after reading that thread (sheep) and it really works. I bought the black African soap (ubersheep) but although I loved the smell my skin didn't like it so I'm now using an organic citrussy one I got in Boots. I wasn't stinky before or anything but it has made a marked difference to how fresh I feel after standing under operating theatre lights for hours on end.

I've done the same after reading a thread. I use the black African soap too and fine it much nicer. I have been sweating a lot lately due to being pre menopausal I think and I don't feel as smelly as I did before.

I've found the same - bar of soap just seems to get me cleaner and fresher than shower gel.
I use Simple, but Tesco also do a nice one by Little Soap Co with lavender And rosemary.

They used to do Knights Castillo soap in Poundland - not sure if they still do

I've used Dove for many years. Doesn't dry the skin out. Also it's the only thing I use on my face which doesn't bring me out in those horrible cyst like spots!

The Dove bar isn't proper soap though is it?

Is it not?

The Dove bar is like a shower gel in a bar - it’s not soap Smile

I'm such a sheep, I did this too after reading that thread the other week.

I don't have an odour problem, but maybe with being peri-menopausal I am noticing not feeling so fresh in the morning these days, since switching at the weekend, no problems. I bought an aloe vera one at Lidl which is very nice :)

I use the Dove one too (beauty bar?) and it's nice because it doesn't have that squeaky feeling normal soap has! Buy in bulk from Costco.

I hate shower gel, I feel like it makes me sticky, even though I rinse and rinse!
I’ve used detol soap for a few years now and I won’t be swayed to anything else.
DH is a recent concert, thankfully, and agrees he’s less sticky/stinky.

We have done this for a few years already, it's great. DD and DS use Dove and so far they have not had any of the spots that seemed to inflict me in my teen years. We live in the Southern Hemisphere and summer is fast approaching. The days are starting to heat up and shower gel just doesn't cut the cake. It is rarer to use shower gel where we live, soap is most people's preference.

I feel like I've been totally sucked in by shower gel advertising for all these years! Am now remembering the fruity soaps they used to sell in the body shop - I guess they don't sell them anymore?
Trying to convert DP, who is a bit of a sweaty monster, but he tends to eyeroll when I start a sentence with "I read on mumsnet that..."

I'm so glad you've started this thread so I didn't have to. After reading that thread a couple of weeks ago I've ditched my shower gel as well and popped over to TKMax for some lovely soaps. I so look forward to showers now! I don't feel like there is still a layer of something on my skin when I get out of the shower any more. My armpits don't feel or smell sweaty either to the point that sometimes I can wear a top more than once before it needs washing.

Does soap not really dry out your skin?

Love tkmaxx for soaps - I have a lovely bar for hand washing that's lasted months. For body I use the sanctuary spa salt scrub bar - smells nice and you feel really clean!

I just use soap on my pits and my bits, still love a nice shower gel for everywhere else though.

I also tried this on the back of that thread. My skin hated it! Went in to oil overdrive and I had shoulder spots for the first time since I was a teenager.

Hm. I might give this a try. I read that other thread early before many had replied. My oh uses soap so I can try it for free.
