I am getting married next month and am doing my own make up so am looking for recommendations for long lasting make up, especially if you did your own wedding make up! Thanks

Oo Congrats! Estee Lauder Double wear foundation is usually recommended for long lasting wear, though it is very heavy and full coverage. Get matched at the counters and get a sample to try it out before

Eyeko liquid eyeliner never budges on me and I have very oily eyelids. Also Kat Von D tattoo liner.

Try an eyeshadow primer for eyeshadow - urban decay primer potion keeps eyeshadow in place all day for me.

Also, look up Wayne goss baking and buffing techniques on YouTube - good luck!

My best friend did mine (a former make up artist) but we shopped for make up together so I kept everything afterwards too. She is my guru on all things make up!

Her main tip was use a primer (her preferred was the Lancôme one called La Base Pro Perfecting but it is silicone one so would recommend you try it and see if it suits your skin). Also to set foundation with a loose powder. I used the Laura mercier translucent powder which was very good. Foundation-wise Giorgio Armani foundations are very good and do not contain spf (which can cause glare in flash photography). I use Luminous Silk. For my wedding though I used By Terry Cover Expert which was lovely. It does contain spf but didn't glare in the photos and looked very natural. We tested all make up under a flash to be sure! I also used a Chanel blusher as it was the perfect pinky peach. You'll also need a good concealer and under eye cover up. We used a palette from make up forever but I have under eye pigmentation so needed a bit of work. For a more normal under eye, Sisley do an excellent but astronomically expensive one. I find things like touché eclat reflect the light too much in photos.

Once you have the base right, everything else is preference. Just don't use heavily glittered eyeshadow as it also reflects badly. Shimmer is fine. I splashed out on the most beautiful rose gold Chantecaille eyeshadow. The pigments are amazing and it really lasts all day even at work for 12 hours. I like estee lauder double wear mascara for its longevity too.

Make sure someone in your wedding party has your make up essentials in a bag for touch ups - I reapplied powder, concealer and lipstick before photos and again in the evening but that was it.

Good luck!

Sali Hughes has a few good tips in her book "pretty honest". There is a whole section on bridal makeup IIRC.

Thank you all for the replies and to tigerdog for the great detail! I shall have a research of all of these products, I think it's going to cost me a fortune!

I do love make up - I don't wear it that often these days but still really like choosing nice products! I'd suggest dropping in to department stores on a Sunday or in the evening rather than a Saturday as they are much quieter. Then just go to whichever counter, and tell them you're choosing wedding makeup - everyone was so excited and helpful as soon as I mentioned the word wedding. Loads of samples and make overs!
