If anyone's thinking of ordering anything, my coats arrived today - had ordered two to try - the navy trench and the brown tweed coat, and they're so perfect I'm going to have to keep them both. I have been incredibly fussy this year too - have already ordered and sent back a few other coats!

There isn't much left in stock online but I'm sure there'll still be lots in store and returns coming back online too.

Anyone else get anything?

Damn you to hell op I wanted that brown tweed coat Grin I was in there at 8am and still missed out. Still hoping to grab a return.

I've ordered the pinstripe trousers - in all honesty I wasn't looking for any more tailored trousers but I needed cheering up after missing out on the coat and I can never resist a bit of pinstripe. Also the stripy college scarf which I really like the look of as I was bored with all my old scarves.

I could have bought a lot more - really liked a lot of it. Had an email to say it's on it's way.

It looked nice, I think he may have watched love story a few too many times...

i want the fish jumper but it never appeared online after the preview! Am going to look in Ox st tomorrow.

I was excited when I heard the announcement as I'm a fan of his work but the collection is a bit too classic/safe to my tastes and probably too oversized for my frame.

I'm contemplating the fish sweater though, but it's a men's sweater officially so even in the XXS (which appears to be available online in Europe) I worry it'll be too big.

Did anyone have a look at the (red) duffle coat by any chance? I had one as a teen and I remember it fondly but am worried I'll just end up looking like a teen all over again. Mostly curious about the buttons which according to the description are imitation leather (which I generally hate), wondering what it was like in the flesh.

I liked it because I'm into men's clothing at the moment - for example the men and women's tweed coats looked identical except for those sleeve ties which I'd have cut off anyway.

If I was after a snuggly coat / jacket I might give the duffle coat a try. I can't believe I've just said that as I had to wear one as a kid and I used to tell my mum she was ruining my life. But now I'm bored with seeing everyone in biker jackets and parkas (sorry everyone it's not you, it's me) and they look a bit different.

Floisme I bet you anything they have a whole load of the coats in stock in Oxford Street if you're anywhere near. Those annoying ties on the sleeves have a very elegant hidden button, so you can unbutton them and all you're left with is a very discreet little buttonhole.

In fact, if you're in london would you like details of the Margaret Howell sample sale which I now no longer need to bother with? It's only today and tomorrow. Will dig out the email if you like. Hope the trousers are nice. I can't do their wool ones as my legs are too short

Sadly op I am nowhere near London. But thanks so much for the Margaret Howell thought - I really love her stuff. In fact if there's one consolation for not getting that coat it's that I'm £139 nearer to having enough saved up for some of her trousers!

I don't suppose you could put a RL picture of the tweed coat on at all? I was dithering but being overseas the returns postage is very pricey... how is it for size?

I'll try to do it tomorrow when it's light if you like. It's not as oversized as the mac but it's not a small small. I am a small 8 but 30 dd and I've tried it with a t-shirt and a merino jumper underneath and that's fine - I'm fairly sure I could wear a thicker jumper

That's useful to know in case one does come back in. Would love to see a pic too!

I buy quite a lot of my clothes from a dress agency (are they still called that?) and I've managed to get Margaret Howell trousers and jacket for about £40 each. Smile

pastacube the fish jumper is in the mens section, I was looking for it too.

By the time I got onto the site I think most of it had gone so I have no idea what else was on offer.

I spent a fortune in Uniqlo yesterday. The duffle coat is nice enough, but the toggles are quite plasticcy. That said, I am spoilt because I got a half-price Gloverall in the sales last winter.

FYI there is a huge cache of the JW Anders on clobber in Wimbledon Uniqlo if you are anywhere near - coats and everything, all sizes...just nabbed 2 jumpers!

Hope this works - it's a small and I'm 5'4 (only wearing a t-shirt as it's suddenly summertime here again today)

Thanks so much for the photos. I'd have a problem with those sleeves - they are wide at the cuff.

Arghh!! Wish I'd realised the fish jumper would be in the men's section! I was clicking refresh like a maniac at 8am and they just suddenly all vanished! Along with the stripey jumpers i had my eye on. But going on the website I see that they are in the mens secction... still some stripeys left. Might have to make a trip to Oxford Street after work...

I plan to turn the sleeves up - always do! And the tie things are completely removable

Lots of stuff in Oxford st store decided against fish jumper was a little thick for me and yes in mens so shape prob not right for women

Thanks for posting the pic. It looks great on you but hmm I'm wondering if it's quite what I'm after? I basically want a man's overcoat in a woman's size: raglan shoulders, straight up and down shape, no whistles or bells.

Probably irrelevant anyway unless I get lucky with returns Grin

Report
faustina · 22/09/2017 20:42

it has the most perfect raglan sleeves Floisme - it's just a shit photo, I promise . If you are anywhere near as old as me and remember Flip in Covent Garden, it's exactly like those coats, except the fabric isn't quite as stiff or thick.

No fish jumpers in Oxford Street, but saw one on a mannequin and decided against anyway. Have to say, it all looked less impressive in the flesh. The duffle coat in particular was awful, it felt very light and cheap, and when I checked the label it was 70% polyester! Pretty shit for £140. Better off saving up for a Gloverall. The long coat above was nice, a good fit. But I already have a coat so couldn't justify it.

Thanks op, yes I do remember Flip (although more for the Hawaiian shirts than the coats). Whatever happened to them?

My order is here. Really like the stripy college scarf (got the burgundy). It's very retro but at the same time I think it looks fresh and modern. The only problems are firstly that it makes all my other scarves look tired and fussy and secondly that it's acrylic so probably won't wear well but never mind, it'll be fun.

I'd already decided the trousers were going back because I'm trying to cut down on random purchases and I really don't need any more tailored trousers. They were basically a consolation buy for not getting the coat (which I don't need either but let's move on...) But I do like them. It's a bit cheeky calling them 'wool trousers' given the wool content is about 40% but they seem well made e.g. the pinstripes match up around the front pockets and they're lined to the knee. I would say they're wide rather than straight leg but not crazy wide, and quite high waisted which I like too. It also felt really nice, after spending the summer in cropped widelegs, to be wearing swishy, full length trousers again. But they're still going back. I think. Probably. They're rebound trousers and that never ends well - does it?

Pastacube, I went to the branch opposite John Lewis, not the one closer to Tottenham Court Road, they definitely didn't have any cos I asked Grin.
