Mohair? Why is it so popular?

I know there is a difference between cheaper mohair and the very expensive kind but having recently having been swayed by a lovely design, and taken possession of another itchy jumper, I am again reminded of how uncomfortable and impractical mohair is.

But I really like this jumper as I did last year's barely worn one so am wondering if anybody has any advice other than wearing a long sleeve top underneath it that would help.

And if there isn't any advice or help, I'm totally confused as to why it continues to be sold and is so popular.

Am I the only person whose skin gets irritated by it?

The last time I wore one it looked lovely - it was on a freezing, snowy Italian Alps holiday and was beautifully soft and flattering. When I took it off I had 70s Burt Reynolds porno 'tache under each arm.

Oh god yes, and the fluff gets bloody everywhere! Black pants are a no no as is sitting in the car for any length of time!

Rabbits? I thought goat's hair. Well the one I can afford is goat's hair I'm sure!

Mohair comes from the angora goat. Angora (super soft but possibly more of a nuisance in sticking to everything) come from the angora rabbit. The latter can be collected humanely, but often isn't.

Mohair socks are the dog's bllcks, as long as they are Corrymoor socks. No itching, I promise, just the softest warmest socks you've ever worn. I hate mohair sweaters too.

Yes, sorry, it was angora I was thinking of - I've been avoiding the wrong fibre! It can be collected from the rabbit's natural moultings (and was traditionally) but commercially it is often collected by pulling the fur out by the roots.
