Can we talk about Autumn and things we are lusting after?

I am on the hunt for a deep chestnut pair of pull on calf length boots.

Anyone seen anything decent?

Also what is up with Toast this year?

I quite like Toast this year. Although I'm slightly worried by my desire to look slightly Amish.

no offence to anyone who is Amish, by the way.

I'll mostly be wearing my knee length and classic DM's.
But am lusting after a pair of Stuart Weitzman Hinterland boots.
Also want a good bag, tan, cross body, big enough to carry Stuff yet still look smartish.
Would quite like a new very long tweedy coat.
I just want to look like me in the late 80's again

So excited about finding things with sleeves again...

Every year I search for a long, elegant tweedy coat that is SOFT and cosy rather than stiff and itchy as a board. Slightly Withnail-like, in browny-grey tone. That looks louche over an evening dress, eccentric over workwear and raffish over jeans. I never quite find it, but I will one day.

Ooh rightknockered I wrote that without noticing your tweedy coat reference, maybe the zeitgeist will hear our cry!

Really excited for the tailoring to start coming in as well as red.

My two absolute favourite trends.

Ooh my favourite thread of the year. I will try and be concise. I've saved up a modest stash so if I'm wise and restrained I may be able to go a bit more up market than normal.

I've really enjoyed wearing trousers again this summer so I'd like some in a tapered, slightly masculine cut, either tailored or even corduroy if the rumours of its revival are true. I'll be looking in Toast (I really like what I've seen so far!) also Cos, the JW Anderson for Uniqlo range and maybe ME and Em if the funds hold.

I also want a slouchy, wool jumper with a deep V neck and I'm looking at this one in Celtic and co I got one second hand and it's fabulous.

For skirts/dresses, I'm going back to knee length boots but no need for new as I'll dust down my old ones. I may also need some flat ankle boots (depending on what my cobbler says) but I'll go cheap and cheerful as I always trash them.

And now for flights of fancy. I too am dreaming about tweed coats. The trouble is I know exactly what shape I want and I think my best chance might be to find a second hand / vintage men's overcoat plus a tailor who'll alter it for me.

And a long, Columbo-ish trenchcoat. I'm going to try and find a second hand Aquascutum or similar brand. If not I'll be very tempted by this Autograph one which is even the right shade of beige.

I began a pinterest board for Autumn. Very exciting . I am normally random in my purchases so decided to try and be a bit more organised. I will add some of my favourites. I love that jumper floisme. I have added it to my board.

I've already bought a navy Ralph Lauren trench-style waterproof coat, and a new pair of DMs in a charcoal antique leather. I need some new black skinny jeans, and then I need to prevent myself from buying another AllSaints leather jacket. I bought one, it was perfect, so I bought another and ended up selling it because I already had the perfect one. Why do I do this?!

Also, I need some shirts where I can roll the sleeves up to wear with my conker brown boots and skinnies.

I would be so happy if knee length boots are back. I have some beautiful flat boots I'd love to wear again

I am also going to make a vow to avoid stuff that doesn't work for me but I seem to buy anyway, such as:

  • cotton shirts. Love the idea, love the look on other people but I can't get comfortable in them, I feel like they're straitjacketing me and they sit weirdly over my hips.
  • generally any top that needs tucking in. I long for that nipped-in waist thing, and my waist isn't bad but I'm so bottom heavy it ruins the effect.
  • dresses with polyester linings. However beautiful they are, I want to tear them off within 10 seconds.
  • short cardigans. They stop in the wrong place and aren't as useful as longer ones.

And BUY MORE of notionally less fashionable things that really bloody suit me:
  • long skirts. I rock a long skirt but they haven't been properly around for a while now, there isn't much choice. Suspect Hush is one of the places for this.
  • long/waterfall cardigans, they sound so Per Una but for some reason look excellent on me. Obviously not to be worn with said long skirts for fear of 90s hippie revival.
  • nice V-neck jumpers in plain colours. Somehow they always seem too boring to buy but I LOVE the couple I have.
  • actually spend some money on decent earrings

Same as the OP! I've been trawling the net looking for the perfect, chestnut brown pull on knee boots. I can picture them.

Can I find the fuckers in real life? Not yet 😤🤦🏻‍♀️

To be honest I'm not sure if they're back or not Alma but I'll be wearing them Grin I've got a bit bored with ankle boots

LilaoftheGreenwood · 08/08/2017 20:13

I am also going to try this skirt in black, to be worn with my patent ankle boots, tights, a sleek top in grey, hair pulled back in a bun, but I'm running out of hope for full skirts and my hips Angry.

Also, it might be a bit summer-weight for when it gets properly cold. Does anyone else kind of forget how cold winter is? I am forever buying three-quarter sleeve tops around September and thinking this will do for winter as well as a layer, then come November it makes me shiver just to look at the thing.

I've got that Autograph coat and it is lovely. I think the sizing is a bit out though - I ended up buying a coat that is two sizes smaller than normal because the one in my size drowned me (DH said it looked as though I was dressing up in someone else's clothes).

Ah, my people!
I'm looking for oversized cashmere or silk mix deel-V- neck jumpers in a deep lipstick red and black.
Also the perfect black skinny jeans to replace my current tired old ones.
And my eternal quest for yet another a perfect black drapey dress which is both relaxed and sexy, with 3/4 sleeves and a slash or V neck. For wearing for dinner/bar/family get togethers with different accessories.
Jewellery from &Other Stories and Oliver Bonas.
Comfortable heeled black boots.
Love the sound of the charcoal vintage leather DMs..
