Coat... getting in there early

I've heard the summer is over so I'm starting to think about a winter coat.

I am a mum of a 9 month old and spent £100 last winter on a coat front Seasalt. I've been very disappointed with it. There's a small rip in the sleeve and the colour has faded from a bright red to a very washed out red. I was never 100% happy with the coatvwheh I bought it. It had no fit and wasn't particularly flattering. I think I need something which pulls in at the waist more.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a fitted coat which is life/baby proof?
