Eyelash extensions

Has anyone tried these? I'm considering it but not sure of the upkeep and running costs. Are extensions better than eyelash tinting?

I have dark but stubby eyelashes and a weird face so that mascara always ends up smudged under my eyes after about two hours. I've tried loads of different brands with the same results. So I've given up on mascara but would like something to make my eyes look nice.

They are amazing but require a lot of upkeep. I was paying about £70 every 2 weeks for infills. Lasted about 6 months before taking a break and my natural eyelashes took about nine months to recover. Go somewhere reputable though, a proper salon not those dodgy express places!

IllBeAtTheSpa · 28/06/2017 15:46

They look great but a lot of expensive upkeep. I've found that after 2 weeks they defiantly need doing again and that's another £40

GingerPCatt · 28/06/2017 17:05

Damn not sure I can afford that. Do you then have to take a break for your lashes to recover?
How does it compare to eyelash tinting?

They're amazing, I absolutely love them. You can't even compare it to tinting because the effect is just so much better.

I had them for 2 years straight with regular refills (fortnightly on average) at a brilliant salon where you could buy packages for a set period of time (2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year) and within the validity of your package you can get as many refills done as you want or need. So in the end it worked out much more cost effective to buy a long-term package.

My natural eyelashes also didn't suffer at all. Unfortunately I developed a sudden allergy to the glue when I got pregnant back in December due to my body generally becoming hyper sensitive, so I had to remove the extensions and stop putting them since then, but I was pleased to see my natural eyelashes underneath were still the same length/thickness as before. I can't wait to start having them done again after I give birth! It makes life so much easier; I hate wearing mascara and you can just wake up feeling like you're already 'put together'.

Here's an example for you of me with and without the lash extensions - top pic is barefaced and bottom pic is with lash extensions (& eyebrow pencil).

They are fab in that you don't need any other make up day to day because with the lashes you look made up, but I found then irritating because there was a permanent shadow over my vision and I felt like I wanted to lift them up all the time! If you can get on with that, though, they are lovely.

itsbetterthanabox · 28/06/2017 17:39

Lot of upkeep and aftercare required. Personally I think lash lift and tint is better. Looks open and long and makes the most of your natural lashes with far less aftercare required and last about 6-8 weeks.

ShesAStar · 28/06/2017 18:25

I liked them and paid about £30 for the infills every three weeks but they made my own lashes thinner. It's taken a few months without for my eyelashes to look themselves again. I got a lot of compliments but I missed how my eyes looked normally after a few months.

Thudercatsrule · 28/06/2017 18:41

I'm thinking about getting some for when I go hols, will suncream affect them? Sorry if that's a silly question!

Confusedandintrigued · 28/06/2017 18:42

Anyone tried lvl lashes as an alternative?

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 28/06/2017 19:29

They are absolutely amazing!! I've had them for the past year (and a bit), full set £50 and £25 every three weeks for infills. I'd not be without them now! I get loads of compliments and I just look better in general BUT my own lashes are quite short now and definitely sparser!

ButterflyFree · 28/06/2017 20:01

@Thudercatsrule you need to avoid anything oily on/around your eyes because oil will make the extensions fall faster. You can get them wet 48hrs after having them done, so just make sure you book your appointment at least 2 days before heading off on holiday.

TSSDNCOP · 28/06/2017 20:04

Could you go in the pool with them without them falling off?

Thudercatsrule · 28/06/2017 20:11

Thanks so much! I'm def going to get them then 😁

Can I jump in and ask if anyone knows about eyelash extensions and liquid eyeliner?? I really want eyelash extensions but wear liquid eyeliner everyday ...... do they work together? Though maybe I would need less eye make up with the extensions xx

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 28/06/2017 20:19

I have had them and I loved them but gave up after a while. The upkeep is tiring and pricey. You MUST keep them really clean if you have them, that is vital. I have LVL now and I am much happier with that.

user1497012351 · 28/06/2017 20:57

I loved them massively but they did effect my own eyelashes. I had them for a few months continually and then had to ease off.
I would have them again in a heartbeat.
Actually now I've read this I'm tempted to get them again!

ButterflyFree · 28/06/2017 20:59

You're welcome @Thudercatsrule hope you love them and have a great holiday!

@TSSDNCOP yes you can swim with them. Just make sure to brush them when they're dry using the little mascara-type brush the salon gives you, so they don't get tangled up or bunched together.

@2012860363 I never wear eyeliner so I couldn't say, but honestly I don't think it's necessary when you have extensions as they give quite a dark illusion around the eye anyway. In the pic example I posted upthread, I'm not wearing any eye makeup whatsoever except the lash extensions - I think I could pass for having eyeliner on in that bottom pic.

64PooLane · 28/06/2017 21:09

@2012 I normally wear liquid liner flicks daily and the only time I had lash extensions, I didn't feel I needed the liner at all, which was nice.

Lots of my own lashes came off as the extensions came away though, so I've never had them done again even though they looked lovely.

(Also - the technician glued one of my eyes closed during application, and I had to kind of force it open while she panicked; but that is unlikely to happen to you Grin)

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 28/06/2017 21:36

I wear eyeshadow, kohl liner and liquid liner everyday with my extensions :) you don't need it but I choose to wear all that faff

GingerPCatt · 29/06/2017 08:47

What's LVL? Also I wear contacts would that be a problem?

OP posts:
itsbetterthanabox · 29/06/2017 10:02

Lvl is lash lift and tint it's just a brand name.
You can't wear contacts during either treatment but after is fine.

Imamouseduh · 29/06/2017 17:48

I didn't need to wear any eye makeup with the extensions whatsoever. My eyes just looked fresh and awake and I went for a bright lip makeup-wise instead: it's not so much the make up itself, it's the remover that will make the extensions fall more quickly, esp anything oil based.
