Fake tan simply doesn't work on my shins/legs - anyone else?

Fake tan 'takes' beautifully to my arms, chest and back.

It also 'takes' to my knees and feet. But have I found one yet that will tan my lower legs? Nope...

Does anyone know why and/or have any tips?!

I have the same problem! Brown feet and knees and white shins and thighs!

Out of interest, do your legs tan in the sun? My arms will, slowly, but my legs are perpetually white Confused

Same here! Watching in hope of a solution.

I have this problem too, even when I've had a spray tan done professionally. Lovely colour everywhere else, crappy lower legs!

Are you ensuring you have absolutely no moisturiser on your legs before you tan? I wash and dry my legs immediately before tanning, and I do find that helps the tan 'adhere'.

I end up topping up my lower legs with wash off tanner.

ollie my legs don't tan in the sun either!

I'm currently on mat leave so outside a lot and I have a lovely upper body tan and ghostly white legs, it looks ridiculous!

I wonder what the deleted post was?!

I rarely moisturise my legs anyway slattern so it can't be that.

It's soooo frustrating!

Was about to suggest the wash-off stuff

I have this problem (upper arms too) and simply add another coat or two and blend. I use Skinny Tan 1 hour mousse so I don't have to leave it on for ages to get matched. Be careful when you shake the bottle though as it comes out in the cap and goes everywhere and leaks if you tip the bottle while applying which is a pain.

Same problem here! I've given up, just use wash-off kind. I got a Rimmel one called BB Body or something that was pretty good. Don't know how it would do In sweaty hot weather, it was pretty mild when I had it on last.

Maybe is adheres easier to fattier areas of the body.

Yes, I have the exact same problem! The solution is Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs (the cream, not the aerosol, as it's a lot easier to use). It's basically make-up for legs but looks great & it stays put beautifully, needs a good scrub with soap to shift it.

I have the same problem, awful steaks on my lower legs and a gorgeous tan everywhere else! I think it's somehow to do with shaving the lower legs.

Found this helped me a lot! “Before applying fake tan, glide a lemon across your lower legs. The low pH of the fruit helps the DHA (the active ingredient in fake tan) to develop the colour quicker and more effectively,”

I used to find this with St Tropez especially.

I had this problem until I started using the l'occitane almond shower oil to moisturise my legs. Now I even tan in the sun. Fake tan takes better as well.

Not my legs, but my chest. Anytime I get a spray tan done, I have to tell them to go back over my chest again.

I'm like this all over, not just my legs: have tried salon spray tans several times ( various Fake Bake shades), and hardly look any different, even though I follow all the prep rules.
Got an appointment for a salon Vita Liberata spray tan next week, to see if a different brand is any better: would love to find something/ somewhere where a good result is assured, before summer holidays and events.

I have the same issue. Just looked it up and it's because the skin is thinner there.
as someone already said they recommend rubbing a lemon across the skin first and then applying tan. It helps it adhere.
That's from an article with the founder of cocoa brown tan!!

The same thing happens to me, but it’s more like my elbow/knee creases

I am so glad you started this thread - I don't tan on my legs either in the sun or with a bottle. Going to get a lemon Grin

Fake tan takes everywhere on me apart from my face. I find Fake Bake Flawless is the only one that works so you could try that one on your legs.
