Sss-lean

Ma ju-eh (finding it hard to write that phonetically)

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 22/06/2017 07:27

Seleen and...erm...mage? May? Magee?

utterchaos · 22/06/2017 07:29

Suh-leen

Mar-hey?

tabulahrasa · 22/06/2017 07:29

Well Celine is a name, so like Celine Dion.

And Harpers bazaar say it's mahj

pieceofpurplesky · 22/06/2017 07:31

Se-leen
Marg

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 22/06/2017 07:32

Seh leen
Mah jeh

Ginmakesitallok · 22/06/2017 07:33

Se-lee
My-eh

NewDayDawning · 22/06/2017 08:33

Celine (se-leen) like Celine Dion.

No idea about Maje? (Mar-jee perhaps?)

Ojoj1974 · 22/06/2017 08:38

Se-lean
may-ya

Madamfrog · 22/06/2017 08:49

Céline: saylean, with the emphasis on the lean
Maje: mazh (like mash but with zh, the same sound as the s in pleasure, instead of sh at the end)

sparechange · 22/06/2017 08:54

Sul-leen
Mar-jee (that's how the assistants in the shop pronounce it as well!)

badabing36 · 22/06/2017 09:01

Celine like Dion.

Madge like neighbours.

badabing36 · 22/06/2017 09:01

Celine like Dion.

Madge like neighbours.

CeCeBloomer · 22/06/2017 14:24

No consensus really Smile o though it was se-leen but my husband said chellini as for maje I thought ma-jay but sounds like I was wrong, just got dress and shoes from the above and was terrified of anyone asking me where they were from Grin

sparechange · 22/06/2017 14:31

cece
If you phone the Maje shop on Kings Road, they answer it 'Hello, Mar-jee Kings Road' which is proof enough for me!

n0ne · 22/06/2017 15:13

Celine like Celine Dion, Maje like Maia? Altogether I live in a country where j is pronounced y so that's colouring my thinking

Madamfrog · 22/06/2017 19:38

Sparechange, are the people who answer the telephone French? Because here in France we say as I said above... and they are French brands ;-)

Lanaorana2 · 22/06/2017 20:31

Seleen as in Dion, Marje as in Marjorie Dawes.

Don't get me started on the Balenciaga designer - Dee-meh Vass-ay-lee-arr if you must know.

Ktown · 22/06/2017 20:32

Selleen

May-a

LeannePerrins · 22/06/2017 20:41

Whole pronunciation guide here from Harpers.

They say it's Mahj, which I would agree with.

It's definitely seh-leen. 'Chellini' would be Italian, and Céline is French.

I pronounced Balenciaga as 'bal-en-cha-ga' for an embarrassingly long time, thinking it was Italian. It isn't.

Ktown · 22/06/2017 20:44

I meant to write
My- a

aniceearlynight · 22/06/2017 23:02

Seleen and Marje

Not 'Mahj' because then it would be written 'Mâje' instead of 'Maje' ;-)

LeannePerrins · 23/06/2017 19:01

This is in French but the presenter pronounces 'maje' at 12 seconds in.

She says 'mahj'. Shorter 'a' sound then 'marj'. the 'j' sound is like the 's' in 'treasure'.
