Help. Evening wedding this weekend. Have run out of time. How to accessorise this dress?

I'm going to a fairly modern evening wedding in London this weekend. It's been years since I've been to a wedding, and one point I had a vague plan to buy a new frock but between work & children I've not really moved on it and now here it is the Tuesday before and I have bought NOTHING.

Thinking I could wear this dress, which has the advantage of being quite flattering and already in my wardrobe.

I am today vaguely thinking of drawing some fashion inspiration from Sophia Loren - hair up, dramatic eyes, understated lips, tan. Maybe?

What should I do for shoes, though? I am totally up for buying shoes. And maybe a bag. Or accessories in general. And it's Tuesday already.

Help?

Love the dress grin

As for how to accessorise it, I'm not stylish so can't advise.

What a gorgeous dress OP. You could get away with a lot of different colours with it. What is your own colouring like?

Can you wear heels? What is your budget?

Had a quick google of Sophia Loren in a black dress. She looked absolutely stunning!

Absolutely gorgeous sexy dress! Gold jewellery, hair up in a beehive and liquid eyeliner cats eye flicks

I love the dress, but black is usually frowned upon for weddings, particularly in summer. You might get away with it as it's just the evening if you have bright accessories, but a brighter colour would probably be more appropriate.

I've been to millions of weddings and have seen lots of women wearing black..I honestly don't think those rules still apply these days, especially for a modern wedding as you have said it is

Sophia Loren IS stunning, isn't she?

Sadly I'm not going to be mistaken for a ravishing Italian screen goddess anytime soon. grin

I'm mid-40s, tall, have boobs & a waist, and am a bit broad shouldered & bottomed. I have dark hair & pale skin, but am currently slightly fake tanned (thank you, M&S tanning oil).

Yes I can wear heels, though I haven't for a while. Lately I've been living in brogues & loafers at work, so my shoe fashion mojo is a little lacking!

I would do a nice flawless skin, cat eye eyeliner and false lashes - no eyeshadow keep it simple and a red lip. I'd then either do red shoes/black bag or black shoes/red bag for a colour pop and match my nails too x

Ok, if you've got the figure for that dress, which I guess you have as its already in your wardrobe, then a pair a flip flops and a carrier bag as accessories wouldn't detract from it. Beautiful dress. You'll wow them

Lol at wearing flip flops & a carrier bag. That's taking understated to a whole new level. 😂

The bride will be very chic and sophisticated. It's a second marriage for both bride & groom, so they're going for quite a grown-up party - I'm not too worried about wearing black to this particular wedding, but I would like to try and look a bit elegant.

I actually would like to look chic & understated, but I worked out years ago that hourglass girls either have to embrace their shape or go a bit frumptastic. It's a great dress for that - sucks you in, hoiks you up, has enough ruching to hide middle aged lumps & bumps. But... what shoes? Courts? Sanders? It's going to be so hot this weekend, too.

StainlessSteelButtercup Tue 20-Jun-17 19:16:55

...so no shape wear for me. Better help the dress help me but cutting down on the carbs for a few days, then...

Dress is fabulous. Red is classic but might be a bit… obvious.
Actually I would just go and try on shoes and buy the comfiest. Weather is set to break so weekend will be 23 ish and ok for courts and hold ups.

I would have similar colouring to you OP. I love green with black. Lovely green earrings and shoes with a metallic clutch maybe? Yy to the eyeliner flick with an updo. Just posting some pictures to give you ideas...

Ooh, lovely green things. I was thinking about burnt orange, or possibly purple.

I do like those very simple green drop earrings. They're the right balance between statement & outright chandelier.

I'd go for outrageous shoes. I just looked on The Outnet under 'sandals / high heels' and there are too many to link to! Some gorgeous bright red, strapped Alaia ones and some fabulous black and yellow Pierre Hardy creations!

Also lots of black strapped heels on there
