Does a good quality tie have to be silk?

Buying a tie for ds's prom outfit. Willing to spend a reasonable amount, as a good quality tie lasts for years.

It used to be that good quality silk=good quality tie that would look good for years, whereas polyester=rubbish quality tie that would very quickly look worn out and cheap. But now there are ties made of modal, and silk-modal, and other combos. Are they as good as silk?
