Help for spots on chin

Does anybody have any advice about how to prevent small spots on the chin? I'm in my 40s and it's got quite a bit worse over the past six months. My skin elsewhere is pretty good with no issues.
I cleanse with micellar water at night but don't moisturise, use Liz Earle cleanse and polish a couple of times a week and use Olay moisturiser in the daytime. Are there products anyone can recommend to stop these spots? My chin is quite red compared to the rest of my face too and the skin just doesn't seem healthy.
Thanks!

Spots on your chin are linked to hormonal issues, have you noticed a link between these and your menstrual cycle?

I found quitting dairy improved my chin acne massively. The hormones from the cows did something weird to me. Also eating a super healthy diet helps (no wheat, 5000 fruit and vegetables a day)

I am the same age and have a similar problem. I do think mine are hormonal and I am at the point where I think I should go to the doctor but it feels a bit dramatic asking for acne help at my age.

Not at all. Many adults suffer from acne and it needs medical treatment.

This next bit of advice won't be the most helpful but in my experience if you can afford to see a private gp and pay for private prescriptions you will probably be treated far more sympathetically.

I went private and was told that long term antibiotics is not the evil they are made out to be and if the alternative is a life time of bad skin it's an informed choice for the patient to make.

Hello OP, I have the same issue and for me it's definitely hormonal. Boots do a double ended witch hazel 'wand' that does the trick. There is a morning and night option which I think has a stronger blend for night. Anyway it definitely helps me.

The cleansing water might not be enough for your skin perhaps? I know lots of people talk about double cleansing...

Also if you want a suggestion on a lovely face mask to use when you have a break out I'd highly recommend the Elemis Herbal Lavender Repair Mask. Really healing xx

Thanks everyone. I'm really not sure if it's hormonal because my periods have been practically nonexistent and totally irregular since I was quite ill a couple of years ago. I suppose it's probably the perimenopause hitting. I'll try double cleansing and that face mask. I was considering trying to go vegan for a while too so good to hear that might help. Thanks for suggestions.

I think the "It's hormonal" is a far too glib and easy excuse for the causes of long term adult acne. Don't be scared to see a doctor.

I posted this on another thread but - I suffer with spots on my chin, the big under the skin cystic ones. A few months ago I started taking hair, skin and nail vitamins, simply because I thought I should probably start taking vits, not because I thought they'd have any effect on my skin, hair and nails. So I was amazed when after a few weeks of taking them, I realised I'd had not one spot. It's the first time in my life I've ever had clear skin and the vits are the only thing I can put it down to.

Paula's choice BHA, has worked wonders for my under the skin chin spots and large pores. I've tried so much (pixi glow, nip and fab, alpha h etc). But after 2 weeks using this my pores are hardly visible and the chin spots have pretty much gone and the redness is starting to reduce. Buy the £8 sample, which is what I did then ordered the full size.

My chin is always the place i get spots. I changed skincare routine about 6 months ago and now i have very little and they clear up quicker.

Ive got oily skin, especially nose and chin. I use temple spa cleanser, toner, moisturiser and mask and no7 hot cloth at night which seems to work for me. No shame in getting advice from your gp.

I just went to my Gp for an eye infection and mentioned my sore, red, spotty chin too. She gave me some cream for it. Is it normal for it to be really itchy too? It's driving me mad.

Paula's choice BHA

I hadn't heard of this. I see they are "Leaping Bunny" cruelty free accredited too. I'll give them a try.

I use la Roche Posay and notice when I have a break from the Effaclar Duo my spots return so am assuming it keeps them at bay

I've just bought the 3 step pack from boots

^ this about roche-posay.

Years of using Clinique. Then using nothing except supermarket-what's-on-offer, then an absolutely massive spot (again) drove me to action. I've just run out of the moisturiser and sure enough, I can feel the starting of a spot brewing within 3 days of using a cheapy I had to use up.

The other thing is absolutely controlled not touching my chin. It's only when I'm using the webcam for conf calls with work, I realise how much time I sit with my hand over my chin or absentmindedly touch it. Stopping that helped too.
