Just calling on the mumsnet collective to see if you can help me find a dress similar to this for my daughter's prom but not from one of those horror-story internet sites!

Or one in a similar style! She's looking for something "unique"

When is her prom? Chotronette do similar, but they're based in Romania so may not come in time if it's soon

I'd go to a local seamstress and get one made if you don't see yourself. The materials aren't that expensive and shouldn't take long to make.

Not sure what your budget is, or if your daughter appreciates designer labels, but Marchessa Notte do similar styles.

More Marchesa Notte

If she's slim and after a geunuinely unique dress it'd be well worth trawling through vintage dresses on Etsy and maybe ebay. 6 and 8 aren't too hard to find. 10 not massively difficult. Bigger are rare and usually more expensive too. Always check and double check the measurements though!

This this is stunning, for example.

Thank you everyone!

She's actually gone for the complete opposite - a very Audrey Hepburn style long black dress - she's adding a diamond sash - she looks absolutely lovely and timeless in it.

Dress was a bargain - £175 down to £25!!! End of line bridesmaid dress!

Appreciate all the links though!

That sounds lovely - and what a great deal!
