Alternative to Birkenstocks?

I need smart/ casual shoes to go about in to wear with shorts and summer dresses. I have had a million pair of Birkenstocks in all shapes and sizes over the years and am a bit bored of them.

Can anyone recommend an alternative that will go with what I have mentioned above? I don't mind paying a bit more that Birkenstocks cost.

What about some Varcas? They do low wedges that look much smarter than Birkenstocks but are still very comfortable.

Sorry to hijack but Birkenstock wearers can you tell me why when I walk in mine they make a kind of squelchy noise? It sounds like my feet are really sweaty but they aren't at all, it happens when I first put them on no matter what the temperature!
