I see that "That Dress " is now available in navy, as if that makes it any better, or wearable ! As for the rest, it's all crap, wonder how much M & S are paying for this placement?

I imagine that the Guardian are paid by M&S to love that dress as the dress really is so truly awful

I read this morn that M&S profits have fallen by 64%. I really will be truly gutted if we lose them from the High St and they go the same way as Jaeger.

I was in M&S earlier this morning and didn't spot that dress, maybe the one in my town doesn't like it so much Grin I normally head straight to the food hall, beauty section or kids section.

Woman (or Woman's Own, I always muddle the two) said it is a flattering must have!

I think how you shop, Music, is how 90% of M & S customers shop. I honestly think they need to ditch the clothing, except for their underwear & children's clothes, and do what they do best now. They need to leave the clothes to H& M, Zara, primark etc and the online retailers which do it better.

Jesus. Even on the model, it's awful. It makes her look shapeless and you just know that you'd get an electric shock if you touched her, from that awful, cheap synthetic fabric!

"A flattering must have"!!!!

Even the model looks horrible in it!

Yip m&s are in difficulty. I'm really puzzled about the reason why, everything is so wearable.

We have been telling M&S for years that we hate synthetic, flowery, frumpy shite. Why don't they listen?

I am so confused by this, M&S are pushing it everywhere, it's in the window of every single store, they have print and video ads dedicated to it, and it's getting so much coverage, even though thousands of people were aghast at the sight of it it. Walking past M&S with a friend she saw it in the window and said "that's a nice dress".

It feels like some kind of weird Twilight Zone phenomenon Confused

What's sad is that they never used to be this tin-eared about clothes. It's only since they've become obsessed with (a) chasing the Vogue editorials, which is such a vanity project, given the minimal overlap between Vogue readers and M&S shoppers, and (b) chasing the Primark market for disposable fast fashion. So now, instead of well made, polite basics that everyone can rely on, 75% of the rails are full of tat that's still 20% more expensive than Primark, and the rest is just baffling.

But I do get the back-of-the-mind 'that's a nice dress' thing, because that shape, and the equally stumpifying maxi dresses with the unflattering frill round the bottom are exactly what I wanted as a party frock when I was 4. In 1980.

In fact, all these off-the-shoulder dresses are giving me flashbacks to the stuff my mum wore on beach holidays between 1978-1984.

Next year I predict pixie boots, shiny spandex leggings and a white nose stripe.

I know it's been said many times already but the pink dress is a copy of a designer version. Whats shown on the catwalk doesn't always translate well on the high street and this is a prime example. Apart from the shape it's a very hard shade of pink to pull off. I will be a little sad to see m&s go (if it comes to that) I like the make up, shoes and pants. But per una is urgh.

They must have been paid for that and no way is it flying out the stores. I'd imagine it's one of their worst sellers. Lots to come in the sale me thinks,,,

I am going to forgive JCM for pushing the pink dress because she has given me permission to get out my lovely silk bias-cut slip dresses from twenty years ago.

Have you seen the comments? Everyone is talking about how horrible the pink thing is Grin I know their fashion ("fashion") pages are laughable but why on earth can't the Guardian see this?!

Report
Chaotica · 24/05/2017 12:40

I tend to find that the stylists on the Guardian fashion pages have no taste, so I can't say I'm surprised.

Report
Ecclesiastes · 24/05/2017 12:46

I'm not surprised. The Guardian is going down the tubes even faster than M&S.

Report
Maudlinmaud · 24/05/2017 12:47

Actually I had another look at the dress and the colour would work well with a tan. I think my initial horror at seeing it the first time has made me misrepresent the pinkness. Still stinking though. It would swamp a petite person and make an ample figure appear bigger than it is. So no!

The Times mentioned it today as "an easy route to looking sophisticated"! Or indeed, an easy route to looking like a static inducing blancmange.

Shock
I'm not sure what's more embarrassing the dress or the comment
