Shorts for fat legs..

What do you wear if your legs don't look like the models' legs in the shorts adverts (I.e straight up and down and slim)?

Short shorts are no good because they bunch up in the thighs and generally show off too much and the ones that come down to just above the knee make me look a bit too 'sturdy' like a man.. I am a post pregnancy size 16. My legs are relatively toned from lots of hill walking but not exactly slim. Help! Or shall I just buy a moo moo and be done with it?!

I have just posted a thread above about these shorts i am a short leg pear and have nightmares about shopping for shorts. these actually were pretty much as good as it gets for me I reckon.

I've given up...I've tried so many styles and look awful in all of them. Skirts and dresses only for me!

I don't wear shorts , like a lot of things they aren't for everyone !

Shorts are exceedingly unflattering - skirts look much better on nearly everyone. A pair of jeans cut off at the best length to flatter your leg shape is a good option for when you need shorts for practicality...except for a pair of those (I cut mine to hit just below the knee and wear them like that frayed or rolled up to just above the knee depending on how I feel) and some cheap Primark shorts for running I refuse to wear them. Ghastly.

technically speaking A-line shapes would flatter, emphasis on nice waist and the curve outwards beneath. Loose leg but fitted waist.

I don't do shorts. Back in the days when I had to, for backpacking type holidays, I wore nearly knee length lineny efforts, casual rather than tailored style (eg drawstring waist, no pockets etc). They were probably from fat face or similar.

But if you don't have to, don't...

Fat Face is doing a style called "flippy shorts" which look like a skirt. I'd go with those...

Thanks all! How interesting, so the general consensus is don't bother with shorts. Thanks for the Fat Face recommendation, I will check them out. I am just worried about the whole riding up thing between my thighs. I did get a couple of very nice pairs of cropped trousers from Seasalt today that are lightweight and flattering and have a high waist to keep the muffin top under control.

I am sensing possibly a gap in the market for nice, flattering shorts for non supermodel types..

I've avoided shorts for years because of similar issues but feeling liberated this summer with the purchase of next Denim Boy Shorts (in both colours!). Not sure if the link is going to work:

Don't normally shop in Next but reviews on Hush etc seemed like their denim shorts would be too tight around the thigh or too short to cover the cellulite, these are a perfect length for me (and great price), covering the wobbly bits but not so long they are unflattering/ old fashioned, can style like they do on Hush. Agee that skirts can be more flattering but sometimes less practical when you need to make sure your knickers aren't on show ;) 'Tis very windy where I live!

I wear fat face again Bermuda shorts, have 2 pairs in fact. They stay in place.

I can vouch for fatface shorts. Shortish pear here too.

Denim shorts are no friend to the pear though. Only chino or linen.

I have a similar pair to the fatface ones. M&S last summer I think. I've worn them loads.

I discovered that shorts are more flattering when they are shorter rather than longer (which is the opposite of what I would have thought). Not too short, but those in sweetheart's link are a good length

Disagree that shorts are not flattering. I definitely look better in (most) shorts than (most) skirts. Don't know why. Also agree with Olennas that short ones are often better than longer ones - I look like a boy scout in long, loose shorts!

Try some on and get an honest friend or DP to give you an opinion.

even when I was slimmer (size 10, 5'9") I had rotten legs
they are no better now I'm a 14-16
I'll happily wear a (slightly) above knee skirt/dress, but have never found shorts that work.

I bet that those commenting have good legs, which IMO is not dependent on size - I know several women MUCH heavier than me with cracking legs

I prefer looking like a sturdy boy in shorts to the sweaty chaffing inner thigh issue I get when wearing summer skirts 😪

I have a pair of denim cargo type ones that go to the knee but quite narrow. They fit me well, but have never liked any others.

Really like those Fat Face Bermuda shorts. Trouble is, my kegs have had it. Truly. Its crap. Was roasting today in Fat Face jeans. I HATE this time of year, every year!

Those loose flippy shorts tend to ride up between the thighs if there's a fair bit of chub rub going on.

I'm a size 12 with chunky legs and find shorts v difficult. I don't wear them at home but I do on hols. A few weeks ago I bought these from H&M and they're not bad at all.
And these ones.
They are slightly a-line which is why they're not bad on me I think.

Oh and size up, they are tiny. Tiny. Teensy tiny. Or I'm deluded about my size

I'm a size 16 with shirt fat legs.
I dint really do shorts much but when I do I go for Boden chino ones, they do a few different lengths as well
