Plus size holiday wear advice

Short of losing 5 stone I'm the next 3 weeks, I'm off on holiday at size 18-20, big boobs & pear shape. I want to be comfy first and foremost but has anyone any refs of type of things to wear to look less bad or actual products in the shops? Preferably budget-it's an all inclusive with dc so won't be out much. Dh has lost lots of weight & looks toned & fab so want to make a little it of effort!

If you happen to be pasty like me, i always think a spray tan before I go on holiday with top ups of gradual tanner when I'm there makes me feel tonnes better.

I always pack a couple of maxi dresses or skirts, as I find them really comfy and it's hard not to float around the place in them!

Also maybe some wide leg trousers? I am on the hunt for some myself, so let me know if you find any nice ones!

Re top half, I too am large of nork, and think crossover tops can be quite flattering.

I'm not suggesting panic dieting, but the low carb threads are very inspiring and losing a dress size - or almost a dress size - in 3 weeks seems achievable and for me would be a great confidence boost.
I'd suggest linen wide leg trousers, linen dresses and your favourite, comfy sandals. Supportive bras and swimwear. H&M sometimes have cool tunics/dresses that are inexpensive. Gap sale items too.
I bring short light colour leggings to wear under tunics because my legs chaffed when I was bigger. Once there, remember nobody else cares.

Great ideas-thanks. Yes the spray ta would be good & a confidence boost as am super pasty. Will try to stick to slimming world much better than normal over next few weeks & get a look in gap. I have some wide leg linen trousers & a nice pair of red silk trousers for evening


I know no one cares once we're there-but would probably enjoy it more if I felt good before leaving & had a couple of evening outfits that I felt ok in :)

I am a bit obsessive with clothes and once i buy something i like and i tend to want one in evey colour. My current staple for holidays is a kimono type jacket with plain vest and bottoms. Go well with shorts, jeans, or linen trouser or even over a plain dress. In various patterns and colours i wear with a nice statement necklace . Very light but a good cover up, they don't crease and are quite cheap. Easy to dress up or down very versatile in my opinion. Easy to pack. Maybe worth a look.

Jumpsuits - honestly surprisingly flattering (and you can usually get decent ones in Asda or Asos curve)

Agree with pp who said NO PANIC DIETING ! This has backfired on me in the past . Keep doing what's working for you.

Maxi dresses are brilliant (especially if your tall) and if you get chub rub get some shorts to go under.

Linen trousers, wrap dresses (knee length unless your legs are fab).

Good haircut and colour, good shoes (comfortable as well), good accessories, good lipstick colour, spraytan and tasteful gel nails.

Dress for your body shape. Get clothes that fit well. Ignore fashion and go classic!

You'll look fantastic regardless of your size. (I'm also a 18-20 and get the most complements when I do these things). If you feel good you'll look good!

I have fabulous sunglasses so at least they'll look good! Have a couple of maxi dresses & some 'comfort shorts' so that's good-also just checked & the leopard print dress that I've not worn yet &'it fits, yay!

There is a lovely jumpsuit in Asda-might try it-wish it wasn't spaghetti straps though!

There are some great wee dresses for over swimsuits in asda at the minute - I'm the same size as you and tend to wear cotton sleeveless dresses over a tankini during the day.

Can recommend this if wearing a maxi dress as an alternative to shorts underneath. I've used it and it's fab.

Watching with interest as i am the same size as you OP but always seem to end up looking like im in pjs all day - im aiming for effortless daytime glam!

Well, until recently I would have pointed you in the direction of BHS, which had a surprisingly good holiday shop with cheap linen and cotton basics.

I am currently the same size and find light dresses, or tunics over floppy trousers the most comfortable things, but A-line or floaty skirts are good too. Something like a denim dress to travel in would be good. In general, something with waist definition is more flattering for me.

Land's End have great swimwear and beach dresses-there's a sale on there too-plus good cotton shirts that are a nice cover up or, if knotted at the waist, a flattering kind of top with a midi skirt.

LaRedoute has some good things, and a 40% discount at the moment. The linen T-shirts are particularly good. I got a couple of shirt dresses from them last year, which are very nice (you may have to order a size up):

I find this dress so comfy and flattering I have bought 2x black, 1x Navy and 1x cerise. (Size 22).

However I'm upper-arm paranoid so wear it with this very thin cardi (which I have in white, Navy and pink ).

£150 for the lot, though and it's basically my entire summer wardrobe - work and casual.

The dresses have big pockets, too, enough for phone, bank card and a lipstick so can go out without a bag.

Yes, that dress looks good & I have a next voucher-usually never find anything in there-knee length dress will look better than shorts so an Asda trip on the cards too!

I was camping once with a larger lady who had the effortless style I would like .
