Hi everyone, (pics attached)

I decided to have my face waxed by a professional because doing it myself is a fiddly job at best.

Before booking, I spoke to the beautician and I said I've gotten a scar before on my face with OTC wax strips and she said it should not have happened if done right because the skin needs to be pulled taut to prevent that.
I agreed and said that's why I need a professional to do it this time and she's been doing this for 10 years.

Started off with a mind numbingly painful Hollywood wax - I was literally seeing stars - followed by tummy and then face which was a neverending nightmare too. Problems:

  1. The skin was not stretched before pulling on the strips.
  2. So this meant pulling the cloth and my skin pulled along with it and no wax coming off my face. Cue several more one handed push and pulls to get it out.
  3. Final rip that hurt so bad.
  4. I felt a very thick layer of wax was used so the pulling just stretched out my face and copious amounts of wax like pulling on gum (it hurt).

But no stretching - lots of pain and MANY SCARS. See attached pics.

Why didn't I say anything while she was doing it? It was the last treatment of the session and I kept asking her to do it in the beginning and put pressure on after the rip (ladies you know much that helps) but eventually she just kept forgetting and did it her way and after the nether bits waxing - I was literally seeing galaxies of stars.

I rang her just now and all she had to say was "My apologies and try keep it clean and fingers crossed, it will heal over the next couple of days". I said I could send her photos but she wasn't so keen - said I could if I wanted to. Should I?

She is the owner of her business too. WWYD please? (Please be gentle, I've been up all night in agony and I'm going to see a GP today)

WTF has she done to you?! I'm so sorry, OP. She shouldn't be treating people.

Oh my goodness, you poor thing. Docs, loads of pics, then legal advice!

You say you have gotten a scar on your face before from waxing - do you think you are particularly sensitive/have any skin problems? Not that that matters because it's her job to take it into account, but it might make me rethink the waxing!

Send her those pictures, that is awful. You poor thing. At a minimum you should get a full refund.

Wow, she didn't at least ask to see the damage and offer a refund?? If she'd apologised and offered your money back I'd have accepted and said no more but her attitude stinks. As pp have suggested, see a doctor then take things further.

OP, that looks terrible. This woman mustn't keep treating people with that 'technique'.

Thanks everyone. I don't really have sensitive skin, I was being a smart ass the first time and used Veet facial wax strips and didn't really hold the skin down while pulling (lot of smart assery) and got a single rip. I've attached a pic of it here. See my teeny tiny scar?
No where near as bad the professional job right?

OMG, you poor love! That looks so painful. I would definitely send her the photos AND demand a refund.

As an aside, have you tried threading on your face? Much gentler. Flowers

Send pictures to her and ask for at least a full refund (not sure what else you could ask, not an expert, someone else may advise?..).

I wouldn't go into detail about what wasn't done right (however much you feel that you know) - that could result in a debate about the detail. The issue is that, you went there because they offer a (supposedly professional) service, for money, and what was done was not only inadequate, it injured you.

I would see a doctor too, just to check that the damage is not too serious.

If they ignore, you can claim through small claims online (send a second letter asking for resolution within 14 days, or you will take the matter further - I have done this 3 times with the full intention of claiming, and found it sorts most things without actually starting a claim...).

I had to swap to threading on my face as my skin reacted badly to having my chin waxed. Or god help me, in an emergency, using my epilator.

Seriously - you need to get her to look at the pictures, I think she believes you're being a drama queen. If she's still not interested, maybe some social media sharing will get her paying attention.

That is horrendous, it looks like really bad grazing. You need to get legal advice I think, once you've seen the GP. I hope you heal up quickly.
For the future, would threading not be better?

Report
Deathraystare · 19/05/2017 10:28

That is bad. I see you have darkish skin - I know people with darker skin has to be careful and can scar easily. I wonder if this is perhaps not a treatment you should consider? However I am no expert, perhaps another MN can advise. Have you had it done before?

However even with scarring that is too much.

good grief. Definitely due at least a refund if not compensation. The fact it isn't everywhere indicates it could have been done without damage, it just wasn't.

That looks painful. Please look into laser hair removal for dark skin (not ipl). It's pretty painless and is really effective.
