Summer chinos for the large of bum and thigh?

minipie · 16/05/2017 11:40

I have a smallish waist, but short legs with ample bottom and thighs. Most trousers I try on are gappy at the waist though less so since I had DC and much too tight over the thighs. This is especially unflattering in chinos given the pale colours and lack of stretch.

I am desperate for some summer trousers though. Has anyone found any that might work for my shape recently? Don't mind spending a bit if they are good...

Ever thought about getting the size that fits the thighs right then have the wait taken in/shortened by dress maker. Would cost too much.

I have large boobs (along with everyting else) and shirts ALWAYs have a gap - i know get the larger size to fit boobs then put darts in the shirt so it's more fitted everywhere else

Boden have a Rachel chino, they're usually good for more curvy women. I'm going to be buying some x

look actually I did that in the past once or twice, might consider it if everything else is right. It would cost a bit though - I did it for smart work suits but not sure if it's worth it for summer chinos. I suppose I should start trying on bigger sizes just to see if that might work

sowhat I tried the Rachel, didn't work (but I can't now remember why!) thank you though.

Have you looked in M&S? i've got a pair from years ago which still look really good and which are generous on the thighs.

Not chinos but I have bought some linen mix tapered trousers from m&s recently. They are a very lairy floral print but surprisingly flattering. I think they have similar in plain colours definitely have a look there.

I've got thighs like Mr Tumnus but just bought these from Cos: http://www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Trousers/Relaxedcottonn_chinos/46887-62826795.1?article=62826795
They're loose but flattering. Really pleased with them.

Hmm maybe I was too quick to reject the Rachels! Annoyed I can't remember what was wrong.

There is a Hobbs and M&S near my office so will have a look - thanks. I have nearly bought Hobbs trousers a few times so maybe will find something this time

I keep walking into Cos and then am scared off by all the rectangular and cocoon shaped clothes ! However if I am near I will try those thanks dogrilla

I have nearly 10 inch difference between waist & hips & "generous" thighs as kind sales staff call them. Boden trousers no good nowadays - they have a small waist to hip difference compared to many brands. Got good fitting trousers from Cos last year & find Hobbs, Jigsaw & People Tree cope with curves too. The other thing to do is to get something in fairly thin fabric so you can cinch in the waist with a belt. Have done that successfully with M&S in the past.

Gosh another vote for Cos. I had better rethink my view of them.

I will look up People Tree thanks

I'm not quite at 10 inch difference (wow!) but certainly not straight up and down like most trousers seem to be. And my thighs touch

I got 2 pairs of chinos that fit me well from Next last year - I've got a 10 inch difference between waist and hips and substantial thighs as well. I'm a 18 on my hips but the 16 in Next usually fits me.

I've given up in Boden trousers tbh, they're just not curvy enough and don't work for me. Their tops and dresses are generally great on me but trousers, no way.

Gap girlfriend chinos.

And a belt. Always a belt. (I won't buy trews without belt loops). And a nifty seamstress. Doesn't knock a feather out of me to alter them anymore, I'm just used to it. Buy what you like and belt it or alter it.

No advice but I have the same problem.

What are the lengths like on Rachel chinos? I'm 5'4'' and don't tend to wear heels in the summer so don't want too long - do I go for short or normal length?

Sorry for hijack OP Smile

Well I found some! From Joules, in washed navy - they also come in khaki. Fit brilliantly, even on the knees ( which are usually too baggy if the thighs are big enough). Highish waist to contain my post DC muffins. Size 8 actually looked better than 10, very pleasingly Smile. Not very stretchy so hopefully won't bag too badly. Hooray!

I may still try Gap, Hobbs etc so will update if I do

Oh and no gap at the waist! They actually seem cut for 1950s figures.

Thanks so much for reporting back minipie! I have short legs and an 11 inch waist difference (to widest part) and have just ordered a pair. Also got 20% off and free delivery with JOULES17. My first Joules purchase, I look forward to looking "mumsy"! Grin
