What the hell is going on with mules?

Now I know there's a 90's revival etc, but when I was out shopping this morning, metallic mules similar to the link below were all over the place. Lots of knotted ones too. If you like em, fine, but I swear these are almost identical to the ones my gran used to wear when she was going on holiday to Benidorm about 25 years ago. Just about everything you see over the years has been here before one way or another, but I will always see my lovely gran in these shoes, tottering off for a game of Bingo! Grin

What 'new' fashion items do you really not get?

I'm with you on the mules. Vile.

I hate the high waisted jeans. Just no.

Yes yes to the mules.

And Mom jeans. On a very young, very slim woman they might look edgy and trendy; but on me they'd be, well, mumsy Sad

Jeans with the bottoms cut off and fraid.

I saw a woman with dungarees on, they were mid shin length and flared. They looked atrocious.

I actually did a double take this morning. I loved a mule in the 90's but never, NEVER the gold ones especially the knotted ones like my lovely grans. But then, few of us want to wear the same shoes as our nans. Grin

Mules have always been hideous. I can't believe they are back. And yes to them being for Grannies.

Oh those gold things are not nice at all! I'm with you on those.

I don't get cold-shoulder tops and those strapless tops with ruffles like the attached pic. Just looks silly to me and quite dated, as I remember them from the 90s.

What the hell is going on with mules?

Good Grief! Dorothy Perkins, ITV is calling - Benidorm want their wardrobe back! 🤣

I loved my black leather mules, back in the 90's. But those gold ones are definitely pensioner living in Spain wear!

I love Mom jeans!

They hold it all in and my top is always longer and you can't tell I'm wearing them.

Confused

This mules are evil pub landlady circa late 80s 90s.

i'm in my 40's and I rightly or wrongly I quite like cold shoulder tops and ruffles. The gold mules are definitely far to Pat Butcher though for my tastes.

Ankle grazer flapping trousers or anything vaguely resembling a culotte. They look hideous on everyone but Trinny Woodall keeps putting them on the poor models on This Morning. Just no!

Don't get :
Mules - awful in 90's as well

Embroidered denim =vile

Cold shoulder tops -almost as bad as those tops with a fake shirt underneath

I don't like the gold heeled ones but I did get some rather lovely yellow flat ones from Zara recently for my hols.

I don't mind the kind of top that is actually completely off the shoulder, although I'm not keen on ruffles. But it's the plain jersey top where the only embellishment is an oval cut out of the shoulder - as if someone just lopped a hole out of an otherwise boring t-shirt and thought "yeah, that makes it a fashion item, we'll add a tenner to the price."

like this at over 100 pounds!

Shock £100 for that top?! Dear me.

I found a photo of me in similar mules in 1995 and they didn't look good then either.
Cold shoulder tops make people look like they're melting from the neck down.
I am currently hating on:
Mustard: why??? It suits very few people.
Jeans with embroidery: only suitable for children under 10
Court shoes with the very poiny deep vamp and block heel: they look like correctional footwear.
Insane floral/tropical prints ( I'm looking at you, Zara): I'm not 76 and going on a cruise. Equally, I am not six for three.

It's a wonder I can leave the house dressed at the moment.

Ggirl the model looks surly - for a good reason Wink

Many trends are born because pretty young people rediscover and adopt old trends - aviators, sweatshirts, Bill Gates glasses, mom jeans, slip dresses, Benidorm sandals. On them, it looks fresh and ironic because they are young and pretty and new to it. On the rest of us, it looks like we just raided the attic and lost our marbles.

Rockaby I remember them from the seventies, too... I like the hippy/peasant boho look. Sadly I'm too bulky to wear it any more. You need a certain balance of curve and slim to get away with it, I think.

90s? My aunties were all wearing those mules at Christmas parties in the early 70s! Maybe they appear every 20 years.

Cold shoulder tops. Awful. I've not seen anyone look good in one.

Those gold mules look like something my MIl would wear in the Costas on holiday. Horrid.

Everything in the shops just now is ruffles or embroidered or floral. No thanks

Don't get me started in the pink sack from marks and spencer either. Hundreds of them in my local store.
