What do you wear to weddings if you don't like dresses?

My figure just doesn't suit dresses, too fitted and my pot belly ruins the line, too sack like and my giant boobs take over, I have lumpy arms and horrid legs, I don't hate myself, but I do hate dresses!

I know the obvious solution is a lovely skirt and top, but because I am so curvy (I am size 14, hourglass, with previously mentioned massive boobs) anything that is fitted around my waist makes me look matronly or tarty.

Any ideas?

I would have had another look at different dresses, that's what I would have done. Surely there are some models that will fit?

trousers seems the obvious answer! You don't have to get your pins out just because you're at a wedding.

I always treat myself to a new suit that I'll get a lot of wear out of. Not traditional "wedding" outfit but it suits me and I'm comfortable in it because it's what I'm used to wearing.

Imo, to many people are uncomfortable at weddings and look it - almost like they've gone to a fancy dress party as "wedding guest". Get a good quality version of what you usually wear to look nice.

Pepperberry is balls. Far too expensive for some quite poor quality clothing. I usually go for a suit. A lady's tux is not too hard to come by and a nice camisole under it with some killer shoes looks fab.

You need the right cut of dress. Wrap style is usually best. Have you thought about a personal shopper session? Someone really good would be able to pick out the style that works for you, and that would be useful longer term as well as for the wedding. My other thought would be to go with a sharp trouser suit.

I'm going to a wedding soon and hate dresses and skirts as I'm a big lady. I'm wearing smart black trousers, a vest with a very flattering neckline and a kimono of some sort over. I'll be topping it off with a fab fascinator to pull the attention away from my belly ;-)

Last few weddings I had been too I have gone with the (dreaded) maxi with a fitted jacket.
Can I really wear black trousers to a wedding? (I have got some nice lightweight trousers from Cos)
I am slightly trendy, but scruffy, think this next wedding (it's dhs family) will be a lot more dressy than my friends weddings as the guests will probably be stuck in the 80s style wise (based on their usual attire) while my style is stuck in the grungy 90s. Plus it's abroad which means lots more flesh might be required to be on show, something I am not comfortable with.

You don't have to show any flesh if you don't want to. Be comfy and confident. There is no requirement to wear anything to conform to the expectations of others. You could try swishy trousers and a nice top, really nice makeup and spangly sandals if it's hot abroad.

I'm thinking wide leg trousers and some sort of kimono top or interesting structured blouse and some fancy flat shoes. Stuff that'll feel like me and I might actually wear again. No more playing dress-up in a frock I'll never wear again

I wore a jumpsuit to a wedding recently. Loads of people were wearing them.

I have a winter wedding this year and am SO done with buying Wedding Guest Dresses I never wear again.

Am going to wear black cigarette pants (already got) and look for a smart top that will work for going to the pub out for dinner as well. I am very much a League Two guest (wife of a cousin) so I reckon no-one will give a monkey's even if the prevailing look is more traditional.

Yes I'm done wearing clothes I'm uncomfortable in or buying things I won't wear again. As long as you look smart and like you've made an effort no one will think anything and you'll be happy.

Thanks everyone, I am going to try some jumpsuits (might not work for me, esp if when I get pissed and need the loo quick!)
I will try my black trousers which are lightweight and smart and see it they work with some tops I have and slap on some bright lippy!
It nice to hear that is ok to not do the whole Ted Baker dress and heels which I see a lot of at weddings, but is not me!

I'm going to a wedding this summer and plan to wear a pair of light tan/taupe 3/4 trousers, and a floaty, flowery tunic top that is almost long enough to be a dress. Somehow, tops just drape differently from a longer dress.

The trousers are ones that I wear for work anyway.

And I have some FAB shoes to go with it.

My DM is a larger lady and very apple shaped, also a total tomboy who hates dresses. When she dresses up for weddings etc she wears very wide silky trousers and a long silky top with a necklace or scarf. Looks very chic and skims over everything.

Black trousers are too work-like for a wedding IMO. There are lots of other colours available. Tan/taupe as suggested by KissAssAngel would be good. I've worn white. I know there's a bit of a concern about wearing white to a wedding but white trousers with a coloured top are so far removed from a wedding dress, I think it's OK.

Straight leg trousers would be better than wide leg for you unless you are very tall. Then a long/tunic top to cover the pot belly. But think wedding colours not work colours or evening colours, so pastels, brights, light neutrals, prints on top if you like prints.
