Recommend me some funky but comfy trainers to replace my killer converse!

I have worn converse for years but the last pair I bought really hurt my feet! I've tried to get used to them but they are just so uncomfortable I can't wear them anymore.

I've looked online at Schuh and Office but there are hundreds of trainers! I'm not after high fashion but don't want to look frumpy so any recommendations please? Comfy, sturdy (have a form of arthritis) but still a bit cool (if I can be a bit cool at 42!)

Any suggestions please?

I've got New Balance ones, the retro style, not the sporty running shoe types. They are the most comfy trainers I've ever worn. I'm not a lover of Converse, I think they are a bit boring so I cannot compare them in any way at all.

Honey1975 · 28/04/2017 17:43

Thanks Buster, I think that's where I'm out of touch in that I'm not sure which ones are like proper running/sporty trainers & which aren't, there are just so many to choose from!

Adidas Nizza

I have 20 plus pairs of converse and each new pair I wet the back and put a weight on top over night.

Never been rubbed by them

HildaSnibbs · 28/04/2017 17:47

I've got some Toms trainers I love, much lighter weight than Converse (which I had before)

I have just bought new converse and I think they've changed the style to a more padded sole. I found it more comfortable than my older ones?

New Balance are very comfortable. I had the 612s which are slightly narrower than the usual retro ones. I would definitely buy them again as could walk miles in them.

Honey1975 · 28/04/2017 17:53

Twiceover it's the tops of them that now hurt my feet. They feel too tight as if my feet have got wider.

I always bought converse and suffered with pinched toes and general lack of comfort (laziness, not sure why I persisted?!)
Anyway, it was a recommendation I saw on here for Dunlop's from Sports Direct -they look the same, come in a range of colours, but are much cheaper and really comfortable. Wider and more cushioned. I'm not wild about buying from sports direct, but that's the only downside.

BusterGonad · 28/04/2017 18:07

I'm 39 and these are my New Balance trainers, I like them as they remind me of my indie days and they are not sporting trainers but stylish trainers imo. Soooo soooo comfy. They have never rubbed and they have a very cushioned sole so they are gentle in your joints.

Recommend me some funky but comfy trainers to replace my killer converse!

Love my new Superga at the moment. They are quite cheap on Amazon - I got mine for £30 and they are £50 on schuh. They are like converse but a bit more feminine and neater I think.

Enidblyton1 · 28/04/2017 18:18

I have very narrow feet and Converse are perfect for my feet. So I can see how they might hurt if you have wide feet.
Superga look fairly similar to Converse, but better for wider feet - so worth a try.
I love Toms, but they are cheaply made and not as good for your feet. I wore a pair most days last summer and my feet really suffered.

Allthebubbles · 28/04/2017 18:23

I've got these from Schuh
www.schuh.co.uk/mens/adidas-sl-72-green-trainers/3404664050/

Except in navy which I can't see online. They are incredibly supportive and really good to wear and look ok too.
I have dodgy Achilles' tendons and they work better than a totally flat style. I also like the look of Adidas Hamburg for the same reason.

User2468 · 28/04/2017 18:25

Retro style New Balance here too.

Headinthedrawer · 28/04/2017 18:27

I love those New Balance Buster.I had some similar in navy leather back in the nineties.Love my silver Superga.Adidas Stan Smiths are everywhere but super comfy and go with everything . I have to size up in all the trainers ...is that just me?Converse too.Size 7 in shoes...8 in trainers or I get pinched toes.

Twinkie1 · 28/04/2017 18:28

Ash do some lovely ones with metal star studs on. Can't remember what they're called but I drew admiring glances from DDs upper 6th friends when I wore them to her school last week.

museumum · 28/04/2017 18:28

I have vans and superga.

misscockerspaniel · 28/04/2017 19:14

I am hankering after a pair of Adidas Gazelles but I cannot decide between the pink or the blue.

Hullabaloo31 · 28/04/2017 19:20

I've got pink Adidas gazelles. Sooo comfy as well as gorgeous!

MumBod · 28/04/2017 19:30

Stan Smiths!

MaQueen · 28/04/2017 19:35

I have some grey suede Gazelles (which I have to hide from my DDs) and some silver Supergas which look good with everything.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 28/04/2017 19:38

I have some New Balance which I do really like, but I wore my new Stan Smiths today, all day, and they have been amazing. I have the sort of feet that blister from just looking at shoes, but I can't recommend Stan Smiths enough. Also, I'm a size 5 and bought them in the kids section for £45!

MollyCule · 28/04/2017 19:39

The Dunlop trainers on sports direct are identical to converse but good for
Wide feet. Only £13 too!

SealSong · 28/04/2017 19:45

Yes to Stan Smiths. I've got a gorgeous blue/grey suede pair. Very comfy.

Molehillfromamountain · 28/04/2017 19:48
