hair serum

I've got thick unruly highlighted very mature hair. Quite short and shaped. I wash it every day otherwise I end up looking like a poodle! I vary my shampoos every day, don't usually use conditioner as I get a build up if I use it every day. Any suggestions for a serum I can use before using the hairdryer that gives it some shine and how often should I use it please before there's a build up.

I have just discovered Josh Wood radiant shine serum from Marks and Spencer, it smells amazing too, highly recommended.
