Plus size summer stuff: anyone fancy a S&B scavenger hunt / sharing good finds?

Right, here are a few things I need for summer that I always struggle with as a plus size person.

Anyone fancy scavenger hunting on my behalf and for the sake of the commons?! Or sharing your best finds this year?

Even better if you're a plus size designer/buyer: HERE IS MY LIST OF WHAT I ACTUALLY WANT YOU TO SELL ME.

For ref, I'm a size 22 apple with broad shoulders and heavy arms. So anything strapless is HIDEOUS and I will only wear sleeveless with cardigans.

My best find to share is the Next linen dress that was in Swears By the other week. Looks like not much in the picture, would never have bought it, but I LOVE IT, very flattering on me, a sort of A Line and smart enough for general office wear (not super corporate but smart and can be accessorised up). Have bought 4 in different colours and expect them to be my summer work staple. It is, of course, sleeveless, so I need a cardigan etc to go with (hence, item 2)

But here's what I need to go with.

  1. NON-MUMSY SUMMER WORKS SHOES FOR WIDE FEET
I have the WORST feet. They are both wide and deep (high instep). Sort of like pigs trotters. I want shoes that are comfortable to wear without socks, ideally leather, that are cool in summer. In general anything strappy tends to be difficult to fit the trotters into so tend to steer clear but not totally averse if anyone has found good, comfy wide fit/deep ones?

  2. VERY LIGHT CARDIGANS
I want thin/light cardigan (cotton?) which is not a shrug, not a waterfall cardigan, and not seethrough. Why are plus sized retailers not all over this? Why are they full of sleeveless and bandeau stuff when I never, ever want to get my arms or shoulders out?

I want it to be hip length ideally. Essentially something that doesn't feel like I'm wearing knitwear as bare arms is not an option for my ol' bingo wings in summer but neither do I like to spend it steaming. Nice bright colours would be a bonus as I have a lot of black work basics I like to brighten up. (I have a bright daffodil yellow one I got from Next about 5 years ago that I have worn to death). Possibly short sleeved or 3/4 sleeved?

  3. WEEKEND TOPS THAT GIVE COVERAGE BUT ARE COOL
Generally speaking I like loose but not kaftanesque. Not too short - hip length for full tummy coverage but not those mid-thigh mumus that plus sized retailers seem to revel in. I like short or 3/4 sleeves. Nothing with cap sleeves, certainly nothing sleeveless. No round necks (why, plus sized retailers? Why?). Because I need an element of coverage that is not usual in summer clothes (!) I want the fabric to be correspondingly light.

  4. CROPPED TROUSERS THAT ARE NOT MUMSY BUT ARE COOLER THAN JEANS
I usually end up in a pair of supermarket cargo type trousers which are fine as a fallback but I always feel aren't very stylish. I like linen trousers but they never last long as thigh rub makes them bobble and thin. This doesn't happen with cropped jeans but I want lighter fabric in the height of summer. Anyone found good solutions?

Plus sized designers! Here's what I don't want:
    sleeveless
    strapless
    slogans
    maxi dresses
tops that end higher than the bottom of the zip of my jeans
    waterfall cardigans
    animal print
high round necks (give me shelf-bosom)
    to look mumsy

Anyone else want to contribute to the wish list Or the shit list?? Anyone solved the above?

Just to clarify (thinly veiled bump) - I'm not looking for suggestions of retailers generally, I think I know most of them. More for any nuggets of personal recommendation with specific items. Of the sort of 'I wouldn't usually try on something like this, but it's much better than it looks in the picture' etc?

this top is lovely on, I'm 6ft2 and it hangs long enough to cover the zipper on my jeans without being a grumpy length and i get told a lot it is flattering (I'm a size 20)
these trousers are also lovely, come in lots of colours and are much cooler than jeans

Ooh, thanks, might try out those trousers. How warm is the top - looks like a jumper?

I haven't found it too warm, it is knitted but it's a very light knit if that makes sense? Best thing with yours is if you do click and collect you can try on in the shop and it is free returns so you can try without the faff order way too much and just keep the nicest things so dp doesn't see Wink

I have a linen cardigan which is nice and cool. Mine is probably too shrug shaped for what you want but this coral one from La Redoute looks good.

I also love these sandals and find them very comfortable for my wide feet but you would need to see if they were deep enough. The nubuck ones do stretch a bit.

I'm a Birkenstock wearer as my feet are really wide too :(

Those sandals could be good - they're leather so they'll give.

LoveMyLittleSuperhero - thank you for the Yours recommendation - I've not really sucessfully purchased clothes online before, but hopefully the tops I've just bought will be as good as they look in the pictures :)

I got these last year in a different shade of blue. Are nice and cool but can work in Spring and Autumn.

I thought they were relatively flattering and comfortable enough that I wore them on a long flight.

Not something I would have brought myself but was given the navy as a birthday present and it's definitely a cover up and not a cardigan as it's very lightweight.

I quite like it and am going to buy the pink and the white.

Mango is my current favourite Plus Size shop but I also like ASOS. Both have things which meet your requirements but its a bit hard to tell taste wise what you would like.

In terms of trousers, I also find hareem or a peg leg to be the most flattering. I buy these from either Next or H&M and then might wear with a lightweight shirt or t-shirt.

H&M only goes up to a 20 in their normal sized stuff but the jersey trousers have a lot of stretch in them. XL comes up big too.

Imissmy0ldusername no problem, I buy a lot from them because it's usually good and it tends to last. I like the free returns and the catwalk videos, less chance of disappointment! Best of luck with the tops Grin

This doesnt look great but its going to be one of my staples this summer, very lightweight and ideal for work

This looks better in person too, good with cardi for summer or light jacket. Ive bought a lot of workwear tops from asda

My mum bought one of these at the weekend. it's a size 20 but generous, gives coverage but is light too and sits neatly at hip length.

Superhero. Those cropped trousers, what's the material like? I love Yours and buy a fair bit from them. I bought some crops from them a few years ago & they were a really odd, very stretchy, very shiny material. Are these the same?

Can I jump on as also ask if anyone has found some cropped cargo pants in size 20/22? I just cannot find any apart from the ones I found in Sainsbury's which were absolutely perfect, good length, not too baggy (my absolute hate), nice pockets etc but they were mustard, MUSTARD!! Who wants mustard bloody trousers? I want black, or great, khaki or navy at a push.
I've looked everywhere. And cannot find anything.
