Fugly sandals 2017

I need some new sandals for a change from my Birkenstock Arizonas. I'm perfectly happy with a clumpy, faintly orthopaedic aesthetic. Saltwaters looked perfect but they don't come big enough for my size 42 feet.

So - I had a look at Hotter. I know. But am I mad, or are these actually quite nice in a clumpy, jolie-laide sort of a way?

Sorry OP, I don't like them at all however I would say they massively depend on how old you are and the overall effect you are going for Smile

I like the black, red and aquamarine and who cares as long as they're comfy. I'd wear them and I'm 38 but I don't like having sore feet!

I'm not a fan. What about the Birkenstock Mayari?

I wear Birkenstock Gizeh and love them. Have to confess I'm not keen on those....but if you like them, surely that's all that matters?!

I'd recommend Moshulu for good quality sandals not a million miles away from Birkenstocks.

I wear either Birkenstock Madrid or Havaianas in the summer and I wouldn't wear those, sorry. My nan might, but that's probably not helpful Grin.

They're bordering on being nice, but somehow just not quite there

Hmm yeah I'm not quite there with the hotter ones either. I love my Gizeh - I got a lovely iridescent pair last year. I've also just invested in a pair of Oliver bonas sandals-the leather is so soft.

Fit flop also have a new range out that look quite nice

I think my granny owns the red ones of these, sorry op. She's 72.

After the comments I expected to think they were awful when I clicked but I actually quite like them. I am 38 and am not completely untrendy (or maybe I am and this is my wake up call Grin).

And now that I have clicked on the link I keep getting granny shoes adorning my screen!

Ah, of course you're all right. Never mind.

I can't get on with the toe post in the Birkenstock Gizeh and the Madrid is too much like a flip-flop for me. I love my Arizonas but definitely want something with an ankle / foot strap.

OK, so here's the rest of my shortlist:

Clarks Dusty Soul

Fitflop gladiator sandals (although at £95 I'd expect these to do the frigging washing-up for me, too).

Teva Original Universal or Capri Universal.

I am 34 and will be wearing them mostly with rolled-up jeans or maxi skirts. I have slim ankles and reasonably pretty feet which will be pedicured!

I think the Clarks ones are nice.

It's like the fit flops best but the price tag put me off them!

They looka like Birkenstocks

HonorBright · 20/04/2017 19:29

I also love these Tevas but they seem to be from a past season as I can't find them anywhere in a 42.

Honor, I'm 31 and I quite like those Hotter sandals! Perfectly inoffensive and comfy looking!

A word about FitFlops - if you have slim feet, go to a shop and try them on, don't just order online. I have slim feet (for some reason, they don't really match the rest of me) and I got a pair of their Super Jelly sandals a few years ago. The uppers were huge and my feet rattled around in them. I figured my feet might swell in the heat but no, I came back from Spain covered in Compeed plasters and hobbling. Not a total waste of money as I wear them around the house with v thick socks now (sexy) and the soles are really comfy but I'm never letting them near my bare feet again.

Teva are quite cool in a Toast type way now.

I saw those FitFlops a while back OP and thought 'yes!' I've finally found a comfortable yet stylish pair of sandals. Went to order, saw they were 95 flippin' quid and thought 'they're not THAT nice!'

I'm still searching. I'm considering these Blowfish Granola sandals www.shoefish.co.uk/womens-c2/sandals-c8/blowfish-granola-rose-gold-p25928#more_details_tab

Theyre not real leather sadly but I've read lots of good reviews on various different websites about how comfortable they are though. And they do them in lots of different colours, depending on where you buy them from.

Def Moshulu, love my bright pink sandals, might get some more this year. They've weaned me off years of Birks..

These are the ones I got but I tried a few and they all felt comfy. Fingers crossed they still feel like that after walking about all day!

Teva have been cool for a few years now. I had a pair of Teva flatforms which I loved but my feet didn't get on with them - the steps went in the wrong place and hurt. I've looked at those Hotter ones and think they're fine but not quite geek-chic enough for me.

Currently I'm thinking about these Duckfeet sandals or Birkenstock Milanos.

I like those Oliver Bonas ones!

My feet are so misshapen I can't wear sandals Sad

I'm 34 and wear Teva (previously a Birkenstock person). Had mine since 2013. Still going strong

I really like the first ones! Surely it depends on what you wear them with. Teaming them with a pair of polyester slacks and a per una blouse would give a different feel to rolled up jeans or a maxi skirt.
