Beach bag - am I really asking too much?

I'm on the search for a practical, organised, nice looking beach bag. I can't believe they are so difficult to find. I want it not to flop into a heap into the puddle when I put it down (so I guess a rigid bottom) and have some pockets to store sun scream, phones, keys, money etc. Oh...and a zip so it can be closed for the beach. Is this too much? Am I missing the obvious choices? They all seem to be sack-style canvas eforts which are so impractical. I like the Salt Water Canvas bag but can't get in the UK as far as I can tell. Any ideas anyone?

The Old Bag Company used to make nice ones in solid heavy duty canvas and still do the shape, but the colours seem to have got a bit Cath Kidston lurid. I understand the original team has sold the company, and I can't find a live link.

Thanks Turneeps but it is not waterproof (actually says don't wash) so no good near pools etc and can't stand up on own and has no pockets. They are strangely difficult to find!

Gosh, you're right, there's not much out there is there!
This Asos Superdry one is the best I could find for your criteria.

The superbe bag from Jujube is kinda close. No rigid base though but can be washed, zips, lots of pockets and huge.

I've just bought this one for a beach/pool/car bag.

There's nothing is there. The Asos one is nice but no inner pockets and doesn't stand up and Soupdragon's one looks great but wont even fit one beach towel. If I was more creative, I would plug this gap and make millions!

How about a Longchamp Le Pliage ? Only one pocket but you could add an organiser or use a couple of small storage bags inside it .

I always use one as a carry - on bag on flights and as an everyday tote on holidays .

twitter.com/originaloldbag?lang=en-gb.... This link should take you to a phone number and they may be able to help further but the web/domain name is up for sale. Mine is fantastic, with all the right pockets in all the right places but I've had it forever.

speckle do you use the largest one and does it 'manage' with the sand and water and still look good after a holiday? They are a pricey option but I was looking at them recently so your opinion might just sway meWink

Amazon is your friend here, there are lots and lots to choose from so maybe just trawl through to find one that fits the bill. This is big and has a zip top so maybe something similar <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Large-Canvas-Beach-Soft-Handles/dp/B01CRAAO4M/ref=cts_sh_3_vtp?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_p=1212178027&pf_rd_r=BJNWJAGGHWNKB6RXBXT5&pd_rd_wg=HmqJ2&pf_rd_s=desktop-detail-softlines&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_i=B01CRAAO3S&pd_rd_w=oLG98&pf_rd_i=desktop-detail-softlines&pd_rd_r=BJNWJAGGHWNKB6RXBXT5&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Here

JD - sorry for the confusion but I don't do beach or pool but I think they are robust enough to cope . They are thick and quite waterproof . I don't baby them , they get chucked around a lot and still look good .

I use the larger long handled ones , and a small long handled one for cinemas etc where there might be a chance of muck getting on a decent bag .

There is an outlet at Bicester Village where you can pick them up cheaper . I'm a big fan of the brand .

I got one in TK Maxx- large sturdy black canvas but stands up by itself. Many pockets & zip top. It had a small purse and what looked like a baby change mat inside. We had an easter beach holiday and it was just fine, and doubled up as a day bag for trip to local town - fit snacks & kids jackets etc. There were loads of options there.

These are brilliant, and you could put a more organised canvas etc. thing inside: SiliBag, SiliTote
