I have NO idea what to wear for a wedding - please help!

I've been invited to a wedding in August which will be a relaxed family affair in converted barns.

What do I wear?! Its been a few years since I last went to a wedding and I'll now have 2 children in tow. Does anyone have any inspiration?

If it helps, I'm 5'8", size 12 with good (ish) arms and shoulders and bit straight up and down - not much definition at the waist. Average boobs. Legs are ok but not keen in exposing legs from knees up (unless its winter and I'm wearing 60D tights!).

If it helps, I work in quite a relaxed environment so usual smartish style is slim ankle length trousers with low scooped tops / cardis or shirts, worn with brogues / loafers. Casual: I tend to go for skinny jeans / leather biker jacket / simple t shirts. So quite understated I guess.

Any inspiration for this wedding? I'm utterly stumped! Thank you Smile

Have you got a favourite cardigan? What colour is it?

I'm wondering about a dress - probably strappy to show off your good bits, with cardi to cover for the ceremonial bits. Starting with something you already have might make it all a bit less strange IYSWIM.

What sort of shape dresses do you like? 50s? Or column? Or something else? Flowers, geometric, spots or solid colours?

Thanks for your response!

I'm not averse to pattern /floral, but not too 'girly'. I look terrible in pastel colours /pinks / lilacs. I prefer autumnal colours I guess -deep reds, teal, strong greens and blues

Style - as long as it's not too short or too clingy, I'm open to ideas! Some definition at the waist works for me I think.

Any thoughts?!

Oh my. I'm so sorry for not coming back to this thread - thanks for taking the time to look for options for me Blush

I really both the Boden dresses, especially the Romilly in the green print and the Riviera in the red. I think I'm moving towards the green Romilly dress for a wedding, as it has a bit of a vintagey vibe, which I like.

Lots of great dresses on the pages that bingo linked to, but I could see myself wearing them more for an evening wedding rather than a daytime do in a barn!

Auntiestella - thanks for your links. I really like the colour of the whistles dress, but the style might be a bit lacy for me. The colour of the prom dresses are all right up my street, but again something I'd wear more for an evening do perhaps. I really like the Hobbs dress (I think it's the autumnal colours!) - that's definately on the short list

Thanks again. This has really helped (and if you have any more ideas, throw them my way!)
