What style dress would suit me?

Im needing 2 new dresses for totally different events/social group.

Ive put on a bit of weight meaning my waist has virtually disappeared so my usually fitted dresses look a bit shit

Event 1 is a wedding for a mid 20s couple. So a youngish crowd so something fairy casual

Event 2 is my db's wedding. Future sil is from a fairly 'posh' background so want to look smart and also dont want to embarrass my db by looking like a twat.

Excuse the loungewear! Thats exactly why i need help Blush

You are very slim so I would imagine you could wear a sack and carry it off Wink.

corial I love the colours youve picked!! The flowers scare me a bit on the phase 8 dress,I might order it and see though. The first asos dress I hate the strange shoulder bits and the pleats, otherwise it would be a nice frock. Really like the second asos one, gonna order that!

Hah thanks margot I fear id end up looking like I was wearing a sack if left to my own devices.

Navy again, coincidentally.

Whistles dress

I think the Whistles dress might possibly do for both weddings with different hair, shoes and make up.

What's the price range and the date?

Oh im really not sure on that one, looks nice on the model though im only 5'5 so would prob be far too long. Incidentally i also dont know how to 'do' hair or make up Sad

There's nothing wrong with your figure. I like the Whistles dress best, followed by the Phase Eight one. Don't like either ASOS dress I'm afraid: the first looks 'inexpensive' and the sleeves on the second are a bit frumpy, I think.

ninon first wedding next month, second one august. Probably max 150 on the basis that id be able to wear again at a later date.

nettle i think they both scare me a bit, just a bit too flowery and grown up iyswim. Im 30 ffs, i should know how to dress myself by now Sad also think the lace might actually be asking for trouble, i'll have my dt's 2 at db's wedding.

I actually have a nice smart monsoon frock that i forgot about. Not sure if it suits me though

I have that Whistles dress, and I'm just around 5'5", and it is just below the knee. It's not as delicate as it looks on that picture either.

5'5" isn't short. You have a fabulous figure and you're young. There isn't much you cant wear. I think you should keep an open mind and try on all sorts of things. You might be surprised at what you look great in.

Don't stress over finding two outfits. Just find one that you're confident in.

There is literally nothing out there - I've looked on Selfridges, Harvey Nicks, House of Fraser, Reiss, Ted Baker, LK Bennett, Whistles, Hobbs, P8, Anthropologie, Matches, Outnet...

Lots of weird off the shoulder stuff, lace that looks like bridesmaid dresses, funny frills, giant florals.

In desperation:

Diane von Furstenberg

Ralph Lauren

Michael Kors

Try a peeplum dress. It will give you a waist. Love this one

The Kate dress from asos isn't as nice in person - I ordered them for possible bridesmaid dresses and they're polyester sacks. Not impressed!

Gosh. Your figure is absolutely fine! I would imagine you would look lovely in most things. The blue phase eight dress someone linked to was absolutely lovely though and would be suitable for either wedding.

mu123 I ordered the maxi version and it crackled when I unravelled it! Straight back! My girls might as well have been wearing a bin bag!
