Hand wash for really dry hands (photo)

Hi,

Can anyone suggest a really good hand wash for extremely dry hands. They are making me feel miserable! It turns my stomach touching fabric as it literally sticks to my hands like velcro! I need a hand wash that is really kind to skin - not just some Carex one that says it's 'moisturising'. These do absolutely nothing.

Suggestions for fantastic hand cream or treatments also extremely welcome! Thank you muchly Smile

Try using soap rather than liquid handwashes - despite the claims of being moisturising they are very drying.

That's interesting. I'll try that. Thank you.

are you "over" washing them for too long/ too frequently?

i use johnsons all over baby wash or supermarket brand baby wash decanted into a fancy soap pump bottle for my kids because they get very dry paws even though they aren't frequent handwashers!

I'd suggest a good hand easily absorbed for very broken skin moisturiser like aveeno or body shop hemp in addition to a mild soap.

hopefully you get this sorted because it's uncomfortable.

Sanex Atopicare shower gel is what I use on my super dry hands. The gold coloured bottle with the oil in it.

Thanks Mesh. I really try not to overwash them. I don't lather them in soap but I do probably wash them more than average as one of our dd is coeliac so I do a lot of washing between preparation of food, a lot of wiping down surfaces etc

I'll look at Aveeno as no Body Shop near me. Thanks for the suggestion. I use their hand cream so perhaps hand wash is available?

Question - thanks. Does it foam?

I use emollient cream instead of soap on my hands and wash them as little as possible.

Thanks. I have actually tried using E45 cream to wash but unfortunately I just don't find it that practical.

There's a handwash that has e45 in it. That's the only one I can use that actually moisturises and I don't have to use hand cream afterwards. I buy from Tesco. It's a common brand I've forgotten the name of.

I avoid anti bac hand washes as I find them very drying, even the ones that claim to be moisturising.

For hand cream...another vote for Body Shop hemp.

I like Method hand soap. I keep a pump bottle of Aveno body lotion next to the sink in the bathroom and kitchen to moisturise after washing - soaks in very quickly unlike a lot of hand creams that are v greasy

The Waitrose essentials sensitive hand wash is excellent for my very dry hands, which are prone to lots of little cuts when I use other soaps.

The other thing to remember is to carry a little bottle of whatever works for you in your bag if you can. I find I only have to use the hand soap provided at work once for my hands to dry straight up and start cracking, so I carry around a little travel size bottle of sensitive hand wash in my bag (the Simple range is OK for me). Otherwise I just undo all the good work I'm doing at home!

I really rate the Atrixo Intensive hand cream, I suffer with dry hands and particularly worse with a toddler which seems to mean I am repeatedly washing my hands. I use a normal moisturising hand wash but use the Atrixo morning and night. It's the only hand cream I have ever used where I am not repeatedly having to put on throughout the day.

If you don't want to wash your hands with an emollient like e45 then I'd recommend soap without SLS. Forget about sensitive or moisturising, it's all just marketing rubbish.
Yellow Johnson's baby top to toe wash is without SLS and really gentle on your hands.
Body Shop hemp cream after every wash, even better if your hands are still very slightly damp.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I've ordered some e45 wash to start with and I'll definitely be getting a little bottle to decant some info so I can carry it in my bag. Atrixo sounds good too. Think I've tried Body Shop hemp one and remember now that it was good - is it the one that smells a bit like weed?!

O keefe's working hands cream is very good. I second the idea of bar soap over liquid washes but I recall using an E45 hand wash which was very good. Let us know how you get on!

I'm allergic to pretty much all liquid hand washes and it makes my hands feel like that. I use bar soap only. Dove bars are the best for me.

Goat milk or oat soap (Lush does a gorgeous one) works for me followed by L'Occitane she's butter hand cream (plain one).

I work in a hospital and wash my hands a lot and also have B12 deficiency so very dry skin.

Dermol 500 is good as an emollient handwash. Doesn't dry out the skin at all. And then use Cetraben straight away once hands are dried as a moisturiser.

Dr Bronners Castillo soap. Seriously it's saved my hands!

What have you been using up to now, OP? Mine go like that with any antibacterial liquid hand wash. Especially carex even with added moisturiser

Holland and Barrett do SLS free hand wash which has helped my dry hands.
The worst offender was Imperial Leather moisturising.

Cetaphil. Doesn't foam. It's the only one I've used where I don't need to moisturise immediately afterwards
