Keratin Kits alternative???

I used to use Ketstin kits hair straightening treatment. Takes a few hours to do and you can't wash it for three days but straightened my hair and made it feel so soft for two-three months. Unfortunately they've stopped selling it. After recommendations for an alternative, anyone?

Yes - I'm exactly the same as you!!

I've just bought this one:
<a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01AY58Z9I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01AY58Z9I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Used it already - its just as good as KK and comes with a clarifying pre-shampoo. It's a good sized bottle of it - bigger than the KK so although it's more £, it's probably equating to the same cost all told.

I have one of these to use. I only have GHDs though and the instructions say that GHDs don't get hot enough for it to work. Anyone tried?

GHD's always worked with keratin kits with my hair (medium thick bleached blonde from pure mousey colour frizzy curly hair.).

Thank you for the recommendation Polyanna9. I have ordered some and looking forward to trying it. Have the day off on Friday so hopefully I'll get a chance to do it then.

Nah, GHDs work great, no problem at all. You'll be fine with using them.

Oooh great, let me know how you get on!!

Do you need straighteners to make this work? I have quite thick curly hair and I straighten with a hairdryer roller brush which gives it body whilst being 'sleek' (in my dreams..) would I be better to borrow some straighteners to use with this stuff or do you think my brush thing will work? It gets v hot? Thanks

Yes loveday. The reason this works when applying gallons of expensive conditioner only works for about 5 minutes, is that the straightening bit jams the keratin deep into the core of the hair. That's really the most important step so yes, do borrow some if you haven't got any and use them on 220 degrees (which is the only temp GHD goes to, some others do it lower - you need the high temp).

It all sounds really damaging to hair but it's the only thing that works on mine and actually delivers the conditioning to the structure of the hair shaft. It actually works out less expensive than buying super expensive hair conditioner so now I just do this every 4-6 months (it seems to last for ages) and just use cheapo conditioner!
