Where are you all buying your jackets from?

Ive searched all over most of the high street websites and cannot find a jacket/coat I like - Tell me some brands I can look at, when i'm stuck like this I usually go to asos for the whole range but even there I havent seen anything I like.

Ideally I need something to go with jeans/converse/ankle boots I'm a youngish 36 so please don't suggest some qvc offering like my mum did Hmm Grin

Oh and when I say high street I mean oasis/warehouse/topshop so I'm probably missing tons!

I'm having this same problem. I was looking at this one m.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/moto-borg-oversized-jacket-6332603
but I think I might actually hate it so following with interest!

TK maxx is good for jackets

Or if you can afford it, Mint Velvet. Lovely stuff in there but a high price bracket than regular high street shops.

Failing that I like John Rocha in the Debenhams designer section - I've had a couple of good smart casual jackets from there

idontbowl Its honestly not the worse jacket topshop have made ... i give you this monstrosoty , But im not sure it would be good for the coming months with sheepskin inside either Hmm

Tk maxx is a good choice - its just the searching through that puts me off and when you do find something you love its never your size.

I have a grey mint velvet trench coat, I do love it but that was a one off spending spree in the sales after xmas one year, I kind of want something that will last me a few months, Im even going through ebay now Sad

All Saints and Kooples. The latter in particular has absolutely gorgeous coats and jackets which are cut beautifully and last for ages. However, because they are eye wateringly expensive I only buy in sales and on eBay (where there is a lot of buyer's remorse going on I think and you can get almost new stuff for third of the price) Wink

For casuals look at their parkas (Kooples) and leather jackets (All saints) second hand. I have their stuff for years.

Try Depop, it has better stuff for sale than eBay. You might get lucky.
The bomber jacket is still in! That would last you through the seasons. Or a short mac??? X

Oooh thanks for the recommendations Have had a quick look at Kooples on ebay - I love them, definitely my style and never even heard of them either. I do love all saints too, there's a clearance outlet not far from me but they only ever seem to stock size 6 /8/10 and im a 12/14.

Will have a look through the rest on my break, I've been searching coats since 9am and have a ton of work to do today! Smile

What sort of jacket do you mean?
Sorry to be dense, but I would shop differently for 'outerwear' / coat-type jackets to blazers, denim, leather pleather etc.

Glad you like the suggestions. Yes, Kooples is still a bit of an unknown brand but their tailoring and quality is second to none. I have two parkas from them and couple of smart jackets and can honestly say they are the best investment pieces in my wardrobe. All sale/eBay items.

Teargas Oh god, I really have no idea and I know thats being stupid as thats obviously where you start looking but I have no idea about shapes or what suits me, this is why i struggle every single year to find a decent coat then come february/march i finally find one i like but its sold out in the winter when everyone needed them!

I'd ideally like a shortish jacket, not blazer or parka type, just something that will do me for the school run, doesn't need a hood but I also want it to be stylish and look good with converse or boots, In my head I know what I mean!

Watching too because I'm looking for the same thing and getting sidetracked by waterproof jackets (positives: zip up, I like hoods, it rains a lot) when really I want something softer that will just keep out a chilly breeze.
I had the perfect thing a couple of years ago.. from Peacocks of all places for less than £30. It was just a thickish cotton jacket with a hood and drawstring waist, not khaki (I hate khaki) but I decided it didn't suit me and charity-shopped it Sad I've missed it ever since.
I trawled through Debenhams website last night and there's lots on sale, but nothing quite right.

I've some nice coats and jackets from Benetton. I've bought some in the Mint Velvet and Boden sales over the years as well.

My current favourite is a Phase Eight trench I bought in the HoF sale last year.

shimmering have you tried house of frazer - I've given up on debenhams to be honest, but HOF usually has a lot more choice.

So I caved last night and decided I needed a bomber jacket for some unknown reason and found this from oasis, Its not even here yet and Ive already wondered what I was thinking!

Another one that has been looking for a while and doesn't know what I want but do know what I dont want. I prefer something to cover my crotch area so bomber and biker jackets are out and too young for me

Shimmering I also have charity shopped two jackets fo good reasons, one denim jacket was too big and a nice cotton one that had badly faded..but miss them both now

Sorry don't think that link worked. Try again:

New Look cropped anorak

There is also a nice khaki utility style jacket in H&M at present which I quite like - no hood to this and doesn't look waterproof -

green H&M jacket

The h&m one is nice and I have a navy one similar somewhere in this house but can I find it...

The new look one though is a bit boxy, I'm only little and very round and Id be afraid someone would mistake me for a bin bag wearing it, and chuck me out.

oldraver I want the same, something not longish but longish enough to cover my bum and crotch - why have I gone and ordered a stupid bomber jacket that will sit right on top of my belly and make it stick out more!

Send the bomber jacket back op- they flatter no-one!

Buddah101 · 29/03/2017 13:49

teargas oh dont worry it will be going back, I saw another mum at the school in 1 and since then have thought that's what I look like - except I'm not 10 years younger with a size 10 figure, 6 foot tall with long blonde hair. This is my problem I see things that look lovely on others but everything looks shit on me.

The bomber does look nice and soft and cosy (I'm not even middle-aged yet, promise), but it wouldn't suit me either and I'm not short.

I never look at HoF, but I will now...

I've just ordered the oversized denim jacket from Next, but of course it can't be worn with jeans Hmm

I saw a lovely jacket by the kooples in tk maxx recently. I find their stuff small fitting though so maybe a bit risky to buy from eBay without trying on? I'm a 10-12 and would have needed a large in something I tried on, I walked away feeling quite shamed.
