Hair straightener- ghd or some other make?

Heeeelllppp!! I have had my current ghd for about 10 years.. but my DH recently stepped on them and not only broke them, but also my heart..

Anyways I was going to blindly order a new pair of ghds.. when DH suggested I ask fellow mumsnetters, their opinion.
I just a did a quick sestch on trusted google, and it seems that newer ghds aren't as mind blowing amazing as they used to be...

Now I'm confused.. do I blindly stay committed to my trusted ghds or look at other options?? Please help!!

I have Corioliss straighteners, and in my opinion, they're so much better than GHDs!

I love my cloud 9 touch straighteners.

Argos - Glamorise straighteners and only £50. They had massive reviews before Christmas .

I have very very thick hair. I replaced my ghds with a loreal steampod. They are much bulkier than ghds so if travelling I borrow my mums ghds. But I love them! The steam really helps straighten and smooth my hair, it's always lovely and shiny, and I don't need to do my hair again until I wash it. With ghds I always had to give my hair a quick run through every morning.

My only complaint is that they are getting a bit clogged up now and the steam isn't as great as it was. They must only be about 3 years old, and cost as much as ghds, but I don't think the steampod will last as long. I've noticed that there is a newer version on the market.

I swear by my ghds and have my pair for over 10 years (touch wood no problems ever!) but have heard many many good things about cloud 9. My hairdressers also use them, so IF ever my ghds break down the next purchase will be cloud 9s.

I am happy with ghd's op. My last pair lasted 8 years of almost daily use. I bought another pair 2 years ago and they are still going strong

Ghds all the way. When my pair broke after 8 years I even sold the broken pair on eBay for £30!! Someone fixes them up I think but I was due a new set anyway.

These are brilliant. I lost mine (😭😭) and dh bought me some GHDs as a surprise. I bloody hate them. Crap compared to FHIs and near it double the price. I had the FHIs for 7 years before I lost them. Gutted.

Haven't had any issues with my cloud 9s. They're 4years old now.

Second the glamorise ones from
Boots / Argos! Think mine cost £45 and I have thick curly hair and it's no problem to them!

Love my Cloud9s and I had been a GHD person for ages.

I used to love GHDs but replaced them a couple of years ago and the newer model is nowhere near as good. And I'm not imagining it - I used my friend's old GHDs at the weekends, they are ten years old and they were much better than my two years old ones.

I have GHDs (about 7 years and going strong). If I were to buy new ones I'd opt for Cloud 9 ones. I think the company was set up by one of the original founders of GHD.

I have Cloud 9's & I am happy with them but still think my original GHD's were the best. They lasted me 12 years. I have heard good things about Glam Palms so I'm going to try them next when my Cloud 9's break.

Im quite keen on cloud 9 but only worried about its reliability... I have crazy frizzy hair and just the thought of them giving trouble scares me... glam plan aren't available in the U.K. Yet I think... I did search for them... the other worry is cloud 9 gives 1 year warranty whereas ghd 2 years!£

I had the same pair of GHDs for years and when they broke I replaced them with new ones, which promptly blew up so I returned them. My hairdresser recommended Cloud Nines so I got those and am so impressed. No issues with quality at all.

If you are worried about reliability why don't you get Cloud Nines from John Lewis and then you get a two year guarantee?

L'Oreal Steampod is amazing. Far superior to the very damaging GHD's and other 'regular' straighteners on the market. I bought mine on the recommendation of my hairdresser to improve the condition of my hair, which they have, immensely.

GHD's just burn the hair.

However, they are not very portable, and are quite bulky. But worth it. I have recommended them to lots of friends who have tossed their GHDs aside after they've used the Steampod. You don't need to use them everyday either, and they are quicker to use than GHDs.

I also recommend the Steampod, my hair looks and feels much better than it did whilst using GHD or Cloud 9

Babyliss elegance are really good! I never had my own GHDs but have used other people's, and from memory the Babyliss ones are just as good. Also veeery cheap! Look on John Lewis and they are really well reviewed.
