What clothes would suit me?

I'm 5ft 1 and 9 stone 8. But dumpy. Big ish boobs. I wear a lot of dresses and leggings but not sure they always suit me. Feel in a frump at the moment and don't know where to start. Would like more separated, maybe smart jeans, jewellery, perhaps some heels aa I'm so short! I need a makeover!

I think you need to wear a shorter, better fitting top with a good pair of jeans. Maybe a navy silky v neck blouse with light blue jeans. A blazer or more cropped jacket could look nice too.
Which famous people do you like? What sort of style do you like? Patterns? Classic? Do you wear makeup?

That's a dress! I haven't pulled it down properly though which doesn't help. I do wear make up. I normally go for patterns but would like to start wearing more plain stuff.

Do you feel quite self conscience about your body and tend to wear baggier clothes? If so- stop. Im "larger" but even i do feel more confident in skinny jeans and a top over a baggy dress ad leggings!

Topshop do nice jeans apparently, i have some from asos which are comfy.

Maybe look somewhere cheaper for something out of your comfort zone (charity shops im thinking here) and buy yourself an outfit and wear it for a day and see how you feel!

Yes I hate my spare tyre/c section overhang but I do sometimes wear fitted clothes. Dress isn't that baggy but I've just realised the shape of it doesn't suit my figure. I'm better with more of a v neckline.

They're a nice colour but they're very tight, almost like leggings so I think if you want to go with more fitted tops you'll want thicker jeans. High waisted ones can help to hold everything in and stop the gaps when you're bending over etc.
Zara have got some lovely plain clothes in satin in bold colours and also things with some patterns.
If you get things online try to get different sizes and return any that don't fit.

Book a free stylist session at John Lewis. There's no obligation to buy and you'll leave with lots of ideas about colours and styles which suit you. Also, get your colours done & start buying clothes in those colours only.

www.johnlewis.com/our-services/fashion-advice-service?

Start with your foundation first so get refitted for a bra and you'll find everything hangs better.

Have a look on pintrest for ideas that you can replicate at home. Start with slim fitted high waisted jeans rather than skinnies as they make your legs look like parsnips. Fitted rather than tight top plus a jacket and accessories would look good on you.

If you like the dress/legging combination then try a dress a few inches above the knee in a sixties shift style. Go for solid, block colours or asymmetric patterns rather than small floral prints.

Debenhams and other department stores do stylist sessions, have a look at your nearest ones.

Also do t buy jeans with the lived in look as more often than not the white worn out bits tend to highlight areas that are unflattering i.e. Mid thigh, bottom. Dark indigo jeans are very flattering. I know this is really old school but google Trinny and Susannah and do the body shape test. It'll really open your mind to shapes of clothes. I thought I was a apple but I'm a goblet! 😂

Another thing I find good is to wear jeans, a nice top with a pattern and a long open thin knit cardio over. The sides of the cards can slim you down and cover you but you still have the fitted top open at the front. Just thought of it because I'm wearing it today! Photo shows it. Not saying I look great, it's just another everyday option.
You can get most things online and try them and send them back if no good.
I agree wear dresses that are more structured with tights and maybe heeled ankle boots.
Always take the time to do your makeup and hair if you wear it then.

You need to try on a few pairs of jeans to find your perfect fit, I think your shape would suit straight leg or slim leg (I actually they suit far more people than skinnies). Then silky blouses or smart cotton tops and a fitted blazer / jacket. I find heels tricky so tend to get mules or boots with a block type heel to give me some height but still easy to walk in!

If you like flowery dresses I'd also suggest stretch jersey ones as they will give you a waist but also accommodate your boobs. I have big boobs and try to get tops and dresses that fit well under them (iyswim) so the fabric doesn't just hang off of them in a tent like fashion, making me look larger.

Lands End have good quality long line cotton tops, there's some frumpy styles but also modern shapes. Their jeans come raw stitched so you state your inside leg measurement and they will hem it for free.
Just scroll down to the bottom of the page there is a link to the information about hems.

Wearing this today which is more flattering apart from flabby arms. But I did have a cardy on.

Good advice everyone thank you. Is anyone able to link to suitable tops?

Yes that's much more flattering! I think shorter boots with a heel would look better though. Wear long boots with shorter skirts or over skinny jeans.
I saw this top on Zara which might be good m.zara.com/uk/en/-c358007p4066793.html. Could wear all black with a scarf or more interesting jacket.

I think I'd go a little shorter with your dress/skirt length. An inch or two above the knee, and maybe try something straighter or more fitted? You look to have a nice figure but those two dresses swamp it.
