Biden 7/8 trousers

Hi, has anyone got the Richmond or Hampshire 7/8 trouser and can give some feedback? I'm 5"9 and a size 12, going back to work after children and moving from a corporate world to a 'smart/casual' school setting. I'm looking for a trouser I can essentially dress up or down, wear with slip on smartish shoes in warmer weather. Perhaps throw a jacket on to smarten it up when required or a more smart/casual top/blouse for everyday. I do want to be comfortable and think the Hampshire looks more comfy but am put off by one of the reviews saying they are essentially thick leggings as, if that were the case, I wouldn't want to wear a short top - with leggings I feel the bottom and upper thigh should be covered!! Hope that makes sense - any reviews on these welcome Smile

Boden obviously - flipping auto correct on the title!

I have the Richmond ones and like them very much. Not quite 7/8 on me (5 11) but long enough not to look properly cropped.

Thanks - I assume you got the long length? Smile

I returned them as i found they had too much fabric around the crotch area...not attractive! I find the Gap bi-stretch trousers a great smart casual option, you will need the longer length probably. Watch out for Gap codes, there's always a discount to be had!

I did. And I sized down. They are generous.

I've got both and chinos as well.
They are a great fit for me and as I'm only 5ft 4 they are a perfect length for me

Thankyou. I've got a 20% off and £10 voucher for Boden too so might try them both. Thanks for Gap info too - I've not historically found they fit me well but will try some on next time I'm in town too.

Funnily enough I've just received both to compare and try but I'm not sure about either. The hampshires are more comfortable and higher waisted. Both have an odd flare at the bottom though and look a bit comedy trouser on me. I'm 5ft 3 and ordered the petite ones in my size. Was going to start a thread asking what people wore them with and what they should look like on as I don't see people wearing them where I live at all.

Ooh I'm not keen on an odd flare! Will be interesting to see what people wear with them then!

Have tried on again today and love the comfort of the hampshires but I can't get past them looking like I've squeezed into a pair of age 10 bootleg school trousers! Back they go. Does anyone know if there is a tapered equivalent?

I'm the same height and size as you. Didn't find the Richmonds flattering - I've got long legs so found them an awkward length (looked like a kid wearing too short trousers rather than stylish).

I have ordered 2 pairs of the Gap bi stretch ones - I got 40% off online with a VIP code if you sign up on the website.

I also have both the Richmonds and the Gap bi-stretch. One in black, one in navy.

They are both good- I'm 5ft 10 and a 10 (long, obvs!)

My only quibble would be the amount of stretch means they wrinkle around knees etc pdq. You sit in them, then stand up and they've sort of ridden up (like a pinging elastic band Grin ) so you have to hoik them back down again.

It's a small gripe though.

Might get some more with the current codes- they are my go-to summer trouser for work

I know what you mean about the flare on the Richmonds. It's OK with say, a white lace up superga style in summer. Can't imagine wearing proper shoes with them though!

Right I've ordered as my voucher expired today and just ordered the Hampshires. Lots of the reviews of the Richmond say they're a bit flarey at the bottom which isn't my cup of tea. I'll report back!

I decided to keep my richmonds in the end as once the crease fell out they looked better at the bottom and they were sooo comfy. Interested to see how you get on with yours lala

Mmmm I'm not sure what to report. Hampshires very very comfy. I'm 5'9 tho and they just look like I've bought slightly too short trousers!! I'm wondering if they need to be slightly more cropped to take the confusion away!

Have messaged Boden and they weren't much help. Some of the models look like they're wearing cropped trousers and others ankle skimmers, how come the models look like the trousers are the right length but they just look a bit wrong on me? Confused - or should they sit on the ankle bone and I need to get used to it as they are very comfy!

I bought the Richmonds last year - I had them shortened by approx 1.5 inch, and then they were fine. Prior to that, they looked like trousers that had shrunk in the wash.

Haha petal that's a great description! Luckily as I ordered a long length I think I'll be ok if I swap the, for the normal length then. Shrunk in the wash sums up how they look!

PS - the Richmonds have a side-split at the bottom, no sign of any flaring?

Am going to order those next month! I've just quickly ordered the Hampshire in a 12R as they were low stock then I can keep either the R or L and compare against the Richmonds.

Ok am completely confused now. The Hampshire 7/8 are so comfy they need to stay but I don't know which length to keep.
The 12R look cropped which I guess is ok?
I am worried the 12L just look like trousers which have shrunk in the wash but wonder if the cropped show too much leg! The 12L fall just above my ankle bone, and the 12R a couple of inches above ankle bone. Any suggestions?

I kept my richmonds as they are the comfiest trousers ever! Like you I was/am unsure about length though. I'm 5ft 3 and normally buy regular but went with petite after seeing reviews. They are Just above my ankle bone which seems to be how they are modelled. What makes it hard to judge is that all the models are wearing with high heels which I don't wear They don't look quite the same with ballet flats and a less than model like figure

I know! I will wear mine with flats too. I just don't know what to do...
