I'm sorry, is it 1998?

I went shopping for the first time in ages today and these tops were everywhere. Took me right back to the 90's! I had a fine array of vest tops to put over my tee shirts but I think I'll give it a miss this time round - my very pert 34B kahunas are sadly no longer up to the strain. (Nor are they still 34B or pert Grin). Isn't it funny how fashions seem to roll back round again?

I'm sorry, is it 1998?

No. but am I wrong to be wanting to buy some overalls?

originalbiglymavis · 18/02/2017 17:08

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/02/2017 17:08

My DD (nearly 15) was Hmm at the strappy long dresses over a short sleeved TShirt looks , I told her they were very much in vogue in the mid 90s.
She muttered darkly about hoping I didn't wear them (I didn't, I was too old by then) Grin

Maudlinmaud · 18/02/2017 17:09

It's depressing.

EggsEleven · 18/02/2017 17:10

I've seen a few slouch boots in the shops lately too which were my boot of choice circa 1995.

Maudlinmaud · 18/02/2017 17:13

When the early noughties fashions come back around, then I will be officially old.
Think Britney spears era.

Floisme · 18/02/2017 17:22

You do realise the 90s was mostly a repeat of the 70s? This is third time around for me.

stillnor · 18/02/2017 17:24

Ugh!

LottieDoubtie · 18/02/2017 17:24

Teacher here and at a recent non uniform day I glanced around the dining hall and got a flashback to my youth. There were girls wearing Body's and I even spotted a roll neck jumper with oversized jeans. It's all very odd!

MojitoMollie · 18/02/2017 17:26

that picture makes that model look very flat chested/droopy

originalbiglymavis · 18/02/2017 17:31

I don't remember lacey bitsike that though. More spaghetti strap tops over a tight tee-shirt.

The pic makes me think of Les Dawson as Ada with the huge bra over a vest.

EggsEleven · 18/02/2017 17:31

Even M&S are selling bodysuits again now. Nowhere is safe.

originalbiglymavis · 18/02/2017 17:33

Completely impractical. Try going for a wee in a nightclub, a bit tipsy. Press studs in very I convenient places.

WilburIsSomePig · 18/02/2017 17:34

Mavis, mine weren't lacy either, it was more the idea I was talking about really. I used to have loads of bodies as well, god they were uncomfortable! Grin

Body's were a nightmare, especially when out clubbing and trying to go to the loo after a few drinks, worse than middle of the night babygro fastening.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 18/02/2017 17:35

I was just inside a shop and said the same thing.. they were selling Chicago Bulls jumpers !!!!

They were teamed with a skirt which was weird too.

Slimmingsnake · 18/02/2017 17:36

Lush...never had the money then....I have now.😁

Slimmingsnake · 18/02/2017 17:37

Snip snip..which shop please?

akwgreen · 18/02/2017 17:37

Oh yes, vest over t shirts. I remember.

I didn't like bodysuits, but teen self was fond of fashion so I owned a couple. Black waist coats around the same era, and velvet chokers!

TinyBarista · 18/02/2017 17:38

Chokers as well. Next it'll be shell suits..... Confused

Slimmingsnake · 18/02/2017 17:40

Oh blimy yes green....can't wait to start looking all 90ish again...better do it quick before dd accuses me of stealing her style...which happens a bit in our house..

MistressMolecules · 18/02/2017 17:41

I remember spaghetti strap dresses over t-shirts(very Blossom - loved that look, I got a Blossom-esque hat for my birthday one year - loved it!), slouchy boots (I still like slouchy boots!) and bodies...sadly I couldn't get away with wearing one these days! I feel slightly nostalgic now and slightly old ...

The other day I tried on a pair of brown suede lace up ankle boots with v chunky soles, which reminded me of a friend's much envied boots c. 1995. Sadly it's only my feet that have remained the same size.....

SuperFlyHigh · 18/02/2017 17:44

I was young enough to follow this trend back in 1998 tried it a few times but felt stupid... I felt stupid in quite a few of the trends though like cargo pants, I wore them but never really felt comfy in them.

There is no way on god's earth I'd follow the same trend now even if I did have the same smaller and perter bust and physique I had back then!

WilburIsSomePig · 18/02/2017 17:44

I can remember wearing a black suede waistcoat with nothing underneath, a velvet choker, high waisted Levi's and platform boots. I expect there was a scrunchie involved and my make up was almost exclusively brown, including my lippy. I thought I looked the dog's bollocks when in reality I must have looked like a right twat. But so did everyone else!
