Gel brands or colours?

Hi everyone, I've recently trained in gel nails and am considering what brand/s to stock. I have my own nails done regularly but have never considered the brand, only the colour. I just wondered if others were brand conscious or purely interested in the colour?

I saw a tip on this on another forum, Beauty Pro is on in London next weekend. You can get free tickets online.

Go down there with product free nails & get them to paint one finger each, make a record eg right thumb ibd, right index gellish etc & see how each one wears & how you like the look of each one after a fortnight.

Out of interest which brand did you train in?.

Yes I've seen the same tip and am going to the show. I've trained in Gelish though when I think about it I wouldn't ask for Gelish or Shellac, I would be tempted by colours. Just wondered if others were like me or if brands really mattered.

I do my own at home and use Elite99. Their colours match Gelish and then they have others too.

I tend to use Gelish, IBD or Red Carpet Manicure. I have a quite a few elite 99, they are much cheaper but you get the same sort of colours as thr bigger brands. I do find sometimes the quality isn't great though. Have seen a few salons using Jessica Geleration but I've never tried it.

I tend to avoid some of the brands such as Gellen and Gel polish as don't find the quality great

You'll need to pick a brand because each brand needs its own specific lamp & prep materials eg it's own nail dehydrator.

If you try to cure one range with the wrong lamp it'll dry it enough to get out the door, they might even get 10 days chip free. They'll also get exposed to uncured acrylic & the risk of allergy is high. It's one of the most highly allergenic products in an uncured state.

The risk of allergy to you is even higher because you'll get multiple exposures every day.

If any lawsuits are bought against you & you've used the wrong lamp, bought a lamp from an unofficial source like eBay or Amazon, or used the wrong prep materials you're insurance will be invalidated & you will be personally culpable.

You'll know when you've found your range. It's like choosing a wedding dress.

Thanks all. Yes Fluffy, good advice. However, when I've had my own nails done I have chosen many different brands just for the colours and the technician has used the same lamp regardless of brand. -This seems to be more common practice though appreciate what you're saying.

The Elite99 colours are fab aren't they!

I like the colours of Shellac and the way the colour is the same as the bottle, however like that the Gelish bottles are bigger. -Hate how they have to be opened to see the colour though.

I know it's common practice but it's poor practice, poor client care & really not worth invalidating your insurance for.

You know better than to do that because you're qualified now.

You can do a colour wheel of shades when you've chosen your range so no more opening bottles.

It doesn't matter which range you choose, you can have every shade red they do & someone will still want something a bit more red than you can provide.
