Anyone else find their skin looks better when they DON'T take their make up off at night?..

Hi,

Just that really.

I started getting into a proper night time, beauty regime, with double cleansing, sometimes facial massage and then add a few drops of EL ANR and a face mask twice a week.

The last couple of weeks, to be perfectly honest, I just couldn't be arsed! New puppy and not sleeping well etc has turned me into a zombie, so I have just falling into bed.

Weirdly, I've noticed my skin looks a little brighter the next day, once I've cleansed and put my make up on Confused

It's very odd. Anyone else noticed this?

Thanks.

I never take my make up off at night, I wash my face with soap in the shower every morning. I then use aveeno cream.

My skin is flawless and it never used to.

I'm usually very disciplined about taking my make up off using an expensive cleanser. Recently, I've decided I CBA and have just been using an Aldi baby wipe to take off my make up and clean my skin. My skin is glowing - looks better than it has in ages. What's that about? Confused

Weird.....

Do we think it's maybe just as simple as changing your routine. Your skin gets used to the same creams, serums etc doesn't it?

I have good skin and I've never taken my make up off before bed and only started using moisturiser in my 30s.

I think the less I 'fiddle' with it the better it looks.

I don't use heavy foundation either, just a bit of BB cream and a touch of powder on my shiny bits.

Isn't makeup just a coating? Surely whether it is washed off or rubbed off makes no difference, unless you are using ceruse it won't be absorbed into the skin.

No, I find that my skin looks drier and more deydrated. Though, weirdly, I might also get the odd spot or two that I never normally get. I assumed the dryness was because I wasn't using my night cream if I didn't take make/up off.

I have to say, the less I do to my skin, the better it is. I'm 45 without wrinkles and my skin is smooth and clear. I kissed a friend last week and she exclaimed loudly how soft my skin was! So, I have to say, I don't always take my make up off and don't sweat it, (but I do change my pillow slips quite a lot)

Hmm it seems I'm not alone.

My skin also looks much better in the morning when I've slept in full makeup.

But if I do it too often, it really takes a toll on my skin.

Shock Oh my god, my people. Yes, yes, yes I definitely find this.

I also find that if I drink a skinful on a night then the next morning my skin is absolutely glowing and will stay like that for a couple of days.

Whyyyyyyyy?

Yes, yes, yes!!! And I never tell anyone because I'm worried they'll think I'm gross Grin Cleansing of any type just seems to dry out my skin and make it rough. If I leave my make up on and just splash water over my face in the shower my skin always look better. I do remove my eye make up though.

Not me. If I slept in my makeup I'd break out. You lucky, lucky people.

I couldn't go to bed in full make up, I always clean my skin, no matter how drunk I am. However I just wipe it off with a simple facial cleanser and use some moisturiser. And I do genuinely have very good skin.

Snoozy, whaaaaat?! I'm not sure I'm that lucky Wink Although I do notice I don't get the alcohol, puffy face when I drink white wine. Red wine on the other hand..... Confused Puffy Mcpuffy face!

snoozy I used to find that....and it wasn't just me who noticed. My dm commented on how well I looked after a heavy night. I was in my 20s though and was never much of a drinker.

I wonder if the alcohol made my liver work a bit harder for a few hours and got rid of loads of toxins quickly so I looked a bit more glowing?

I was in my teens when I noticed that my skin got worse if I followed a 'cleanse, tone and moisturise' routine at night. My skin got thin and papery... So I stopped.

Occasionally I decide to have a go at pampering myself, or I get sucked in by the dismal mumbo jumbo of the person on the Lancome/Clinique/whatever counter, and I buy some cleansing products and try again (this despite the fact that I used to own a toiletries company and I KNOW it is mumbo jumbo!! And the crap they spout - 'water will damage your skin, use toner instead' sort of out-and-out shite). After a few days I stop, because my skin starts being difficult - it feels tight and thin and starts needing a lot more attention.

I mostly wash my face in the shower at night with a very mild shower gel such as Dr Hauschka. I live in London, and my skin can get dirty, so plain water would not be enough unfortunately. If I have put a lot of eye make up on then I may use something like Anne French or one of those micellar waters before the shower and wash. I put a moisturiser on particularly around my lower face which gets dry from toothpaste I think, and that is it. I am using a Korean moisturiser from TKMaxx at the moment, and it is really great.

The only thing that makes me break out is (was in my case, I'm past that now, thank god!) hormones/tom and eating too much sugar/chocolate. I just don't see, biologically speaking, how anything that I put on the outside can cause spots.

Re the drinking thing, I completely agree and I am so glad to finally see others say the same thing! I drink rarely, so I can over do it rather easily (1 drink happy, 2 drinks rat-arsed, 3 drinks throwing up!) and there is nothing like a good bracing bout of alcohol poisoning to make me feel bloody amazing the next day after the headache has gone!

Now, if only there was a better way to replicate the effects-I'd make my fortune.

I never take my make up off at night although I do cleanse it well in the morning right before slapping the make up on again. I am mid 40s and people always think I'm mid 30s. I have no wrinkles yet (although have now started baby botox to prevent them from forming).

Google Caveman skincare regime - that's essentially what you are doing.

I find my skin does better the less I do to it.

My skin definitely looks better when I drink loads of coffee...

I've been thinking about cutting my products and routine a lot recently, running down what I have and just going basic. My skin looks no better at all (not bad though, just the same level of okayness) no matter what I do so I figure I might as well save some cash.

In a related thing- I started using Dh's cheap Tesco 2 in 1 version of head and shoulders on a whim rather than the expensive separate shampoo and conditioners and masks etc and my hair has never been softer or swishier and it's like 80p a bottle.

i think I have taken off my make up before bed maybe 20 times in my life.... my skin is very very very good .... but then I have no way of knowing if it would be better had I taken care of it. When I use fancy products I get spots.

I am so shocked by how many sleep in their makeup! Good grief. Even at the height of my up for 48 hours taking Ketamine years I'd cleanse before bed.

YY to skin looking good after drinking. Day 2 of a 3 day bender is like a permanent Instagram filter. You pay for it later though.
