Would you chop this off? Quick question.

Look at the back view. The little black strip of fabric across your back thing.

I bought this yesterday. I was going to cut the strip off, but online the model is wearing it with it on. So is it a fashion statement or a thing to keep it on the hanger? Confused

To chop off or not to chop off?

p.s: if anyone remembers - this is my final decision on what to wear this wkend. With black skinnies and v.high black courts. Old thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2838914-OH-gawd-Big-night-out-with-teens-20s-help

No. I presume it's needed to make the shoulders sit right. Plus, I like it.

dudsville · 16/02/2017 07:49

I think it keeps the top sitting properly.

Cute top by the way. I used to have something similar for nights out.

If you cut it off the top will slide off your shoulders every two seconds.

Okite · 16/02/2017 07:50

Hmm, I wouldn't because the fabric looks very thin and slippery and I assume the shoulders would just slip down your arms.

I reckon you'd be in danger of the whole thing falling off.
So depends on your attitude to risk and public nudity I suppose Smile

Do not chop! It's what keeps it on you rather than around your waist Grin

It's part of the top. Don't chop it off. It won't stay on your shoulders without it.

Ah, it's a unanimous don't chop.

BUT if it was just on looks - and i could keep the shoulders up with the little safety pin on inside on bra strap trick - would you still vote not to chop? Purely going on the look of it? Thanks.

Don't chop. Definitely don't chop

Oh and thank you dudsville. It was a last minute snatch on the way to the fitting room with other stuff - i almost didn't bother to try it on. The other bits looked awful and i was all disheartened and DD was getting fed up (3) but this looks gorgeous on and i LOVE it Grin

I've worn quite a few bits of Star by JM in the past. I'd forgotten all about him.

I wouldn't chop it off. If you did, you would need tit tape to get it to stick to your shoulders.

Just on looks - I still wouldn't chop it. It's nice.

I don't like it, so would chop it off then use tape or safety pins - or just sew on a thinner strip that is the thickness of the trim - the current strip is too thick, I think.

Don't chop off. I think it helps the top hold it's shape and it looks good too.

The shoulders will fall down. You need to keep the band at the back. Chopping it off will not work.

I'd chop it, and then tit tape it to my shoulders.

Don't chop, you'll be more comfortable knowing you aren't held together with safety pins and tit tape.

Ginkypig · 16/02/2017 19:32

See I'd chop it and put a chain in its place so it's like a backlace instead of a necklace Smile

Safety pins work just as well

Do not remove it or you will ruin the top!

What is so bad about it?

AFierceBadRabbit · 16/02/2017 19:49

i have a dress from zara with a thin band at the back.
Although unlike yours I have to tie it, like a ribbon.
Looking at the dress you'd easily think it is unnecessary and could be chopped off, but when I leave it untied the chest sags horribly and looks ridiculous.
It isn't just keeping the shoulders up, it's possibly also creating a certain 'tension' that gives the FRONT of the top its shape.

If you don't like the strip, cut one end off carefully and try the top on to check it's not going to fall down in a hideously embarrassing wardrobe malfunction on your night out.
Once you've decided, you can sew the end of the strip back or cut off the rest.
