Eyelash extensions - am I being too fussy?

I've just had eyelash extensions for the first time and I'm somewhat disappointed. I'm not young so my hair has started to thin which is fantastic because it's always been too thick, but I also noticed my eyelashes had thinned too.

I went to a well known local salon chain today and whilst one eye looks great I feel the other is slightly unevenly spaced and they aren't sitting as straight. Is this normal? Am I being fussy?

I was also told to come back in two weeks for refills. Is that right? I had it in my head they last 2-3 months (but I've honestly got no idea where I got that info from, I may have made it up Grin )

Anyone with some knowledge care to give me their expert advice please?

They can last 6-8 weeks, but they would look really patchy due to losing natural eyelashes at different intervals, therefore you do really need to go every 2-3 weeks for upkeep. You can do things to minimise loss, no eye makeup, no water etc but it is not always feasible. If you are not happy with one of your eyes you should bring it up as then your beautician can rectify this.

As an alternative try thickening up your own with castor oil

I had mine done a few years ago for a big holiday and was disappointed by day 4/5 as well.

I bought some pots of individual lashes off the internet, some decent proper black lash glue and filled the gaps myself. Good tweezers, magnifying mirror, grim determination and trial and error. I made a better job of it than the salon in the end because i know my own lids and lashes better than anyone iyswim? Kept it up for a couple of months and they looked good - but got fed up with doing it.

In the very end i tried Revitalash and that was the answer to my problems. (i'm not on commission from them i promise Grin)

I have mine done by a professional in my city, I've never known them to last 6-8 weeks (I wish they would!) I'd say 4 max for me. I have infills every two weeks and I replace the full set about every 8. I've been having them for about three years now.

Did you have an uneven set of lashes on the eye your unhappy with? They can only put extensions on lashes you already have. Maybe that's why they look a little uneven.

Thanks everyone. I haven't tried Revitalash - could I use it at the same time as I have extensions do you think? If I go back to get refills I will definitely talk about the "difference" between the two eyes, I took my contacts out today for the procedure so my ability to really check them out was a little compromised Grin

No I don't think so Rainbow, my lashes are just shorter and finer than when I was younger Sad

I had some cluster ones done and some fell off. Don't like the hassle plus the feel.

I had to google creamcheese - looks great but my lashes are now fine and short so would I still get a good result?

I have very short and straight lashes and I got a good result. I still used mascara some days but they looked 100 x better than usual. They are lifted straight up from the root so any lash u have will be affected and stick up. Have a look at some
Before and after pics.

So if you have a natural small gap then it will show as the lashes only extend your existing lashes. No ones naturally are completely even.
Infills every 2-3 weeks is normal. Your lash cycle will mean they will look very gappy without regular infills.
Aftercare is important- try not to get them wet, no rubbing or picking, don't use any oils at so no oily makeup remover and no mascara.
The poster that did them themselves is talking about temporary cluster lashes not lash extensions. You can't do semi permanent lash extensions on yourself.

Thanks cream cheese - that sounds promising. I'm going to try this next time

Itsbetter I was told all that information but thank you. I think, although I asked for extensions, I've been given clusters as they were in small groups not individual lashes. Sad

The clusters are quicker to put on. They make my eyes itch

I just wanted to post an update on this thread. I didn't go back for refills as I wasn't totally happy with the extensions. I ordered Revitalash online as it's not available to buy in Australia. I've been using it daily since early March and the results are amazing. My lashes are double the length they were previous to the extensions and I'm absolutely thrilled so special thanks to @Laiste for the excellent advice Flowers
