Apple shapes: tops to wear with skinnies?

hunans · 10/02/2017 18:51

I have decent legs but a thick waist and hips. I need some new tops which are slightly longer in length (i.e don't finish on my hips) and not fitted but not shapeless. To be worn with my faithful black skinnies.

Any inspiration?

Thanks muchly Flowers

I don't have any tips but this morning I emptied out my entire wardrobe looking for a top like this. I don't own one and I know I don't so I've no idea why I carried on trashing the room looking
So I'm following with interest as I've got a similar body shape

Glad it's not just me! (Also sorry to hear you're having this annoying issue.)

I was in Tesco this morning and their new range seems to be sort of seventies / hippyish / cheesecloth type tops with denim jackets / jeans. Didn't have time to try on but something on those lines maybe?

I know you said not shapeless but I'm an apple (inverted triangle when slim!) and like a sort of relaxed batwing type top. Doesn't cling to tummy and skims. Although I also have no neck and a long torso so don't know if that makes a difference!?

I do love a batwing.

I always look for 'longline' or 'tunic' to avoid this issue!

Phase Eight is your friend. They always have a batwing, slightly long top that isn't either gathered at the bottom or massive. V flattering with a skinny trew.

cind That link doesn't work! Sad

Yay! An apple shape thread!!

FWIW I have to have longish length tunics to cover my saggy tum.

Thank god there are other apples here! Was just looking st the title of the hourglass one longingly and wishing there was something for us.

Just cleared out most of my wardrobe and I literally only have one top that I like... I find summer so much easier as can wear little cardis or thin kimono type things over v beck vests.

Please apples come along and post some more tops and clothes Grin

I know they are not very exciting but they are good basics. Beware, most uniqlo t shirts and tops are far too short , just past waist length

Christ, I would kill to be hourglass or pear but alas, I am what I am.

Slouchy shape in general works well for me.

Problem is have is knowing what to wear beyond skinnies- I feel I have to show off slim legs due to bulbous upper half but then risk the top heavy/silly little legs look.

Yes bronte! That's how I feel too

Boot cuts I feel massive though, everything feels wider and I'm very short. Skinnies work better but anything loose or baggy makes my middle look bigger whilst legs look smaller. But I don't like anything tight or too fitted. Gaaaaah

I'm an apple. I like v neck tunics with sleeves, length just above my knees. Amazon have some and I've just bought one.

Apples unite! I like it

Thanks for links.

Some of these tops would make me look bigger I fear. I'm really wide shouldered and big of boob too (aren't I lucky) so anything with a high front doesn't help.
V necks and scoop necks seem to work best for me but I just can't find anything in shops/online at the minute.

Also trying to move away from skinnies as I think my massive top half with them just makes me look even wider up top.

I also have large norks and like you only wear v and scooped necks. I find that the trick is to ensure that all my clothes and very neatly fitted on the shoulder. I Usually wear 3/4 sleeves top and also cropped trousers when the weather permits.

So although my middle is a fat blob, other parts of me are neat and fitted, like arms, necks and shoulders, legs , wrists and ankles .

And I wear slim leg trousers , not skin tight skinnies so it's not too much of a contrast with my top half .
