Is 50 too old to wear trainers this spring?

I'm stuck in a style rut. I have some very lovely winter boots but in the spring I revert to loafers which seem a bit safe.
I was thinking maybe trainers or pumps might be a bit more trendy.
Adidas Gazelle or navy leather Superga?

My teens will ridicule me but I can live with that.
I have decent dark skinnies and some ok 7/8 trousers.

I can't think of any reason why someone of any age shouldnt wear trainers.

Just wear what you like and what you feel suits you. Am hurtling into my mid 60s.

Trainers are comfortable. 50 is not too old. 90 or 100 would still not be too old.

Go for it! Although maybe take my advice with a pinch of salt as I am younger than you and also stuck in a proper style rut post-baby.

What trainers are the cool kids wearing these days?

Thanks, I'm so blooming conservative.

And embarrassing middle aged question, do you wear socks with them? Those trainer sick things or bare feet which might be more stylish but could lead to a smelly shoe?Blush

Trainer socks would be my choice. No bare feet in trainers.

Good grief! Please wear whatever you feel comfortable in whatever your age.

My mums in her 50's and wears trainers loads. I don't approve, but that's because she wears old, battered running ones.

Nothing wrong with gazelles though, go for it.

Oh and as for socks I wear the type that is low enough not to show. I prefer H&Ms ones with the silicone heel grip.

Never too old for trainers. If they're to go with dark skinny jeans then go for something in a darker colour. I have these ones and they go with loads of things

I know this one Grin

No, not too old.

Yes to trainer socks with silicone heel grips (at 4.5, the H&M ones are too big for me especially after the first wash, I have some Pringle ones from TK Maxx that are a better fit).

No, you must waddle along on ugly teetering heels or stupid ballet flats, comfortable practical shoes are illegal for women...

Of course you can wear trainers! Make sure they fit and have fastenings, shoes that need grips are shoes that dont fit.

Im in my 40s and wear trainers most of the time, own two pairs of Adidas Gazelles. I wear mine with socks that cover my ankles at the moment, just wear brightly coloured ones so it looks intentional rather than an embarrassing oversight.
Go for it! They're comfortable and look good with everything

I'm 53 and am getting Navy Superga trainers this year. I also have the silver ones from last year. It never crossed my mind I might be too old so I'm a bit worried now Shock

I rarely take my trainers off (major surgery on leg means I can wear little else). I'm older than you and I have many pairs in different colours and styles. I love them.

What everyone else has said. If your teens don't like it I would tell them to get off their arses and go and find their own look - like we had to.

I am in my 50s and intend to wear Adidas Stan smiths until I die.

Supergas are actually a very popular choice for the older generation. Older than 50 anyway! I work in a shoe shop we sell a lot of them to trendy pensioners!

My 76 year old Mum always wears trainers whereas I wouldn't be seen dead in them so i don't think age has much to do with it.

My mum is in her 80s and wears Mephisto trainers almost every day - they are amazingly supportive and offer great shock absorption. I am 49 and wear trainers 4 days out of 7! Have moved on from Stan Smiths as there was a stage a year or so ago when almost every single one of my 13-yr-old DD's friends were wearing them. Now I like Veja trainers - French brand that's ethically produced. New Balance for J Crew also Worth checking out.
