What the hell has happened to TK Maxx?

It used to be great. Full of wonderful fashion.

In the last year, it's just tat. And prices have gone up.

Sorely disappointed!

I agree. Just a couple of years ago it was my favourite shop in the whole world but it's lost it's way badly.

I've only just discovered TK Maxx and I'm loving it. But I only go for the homewares and tights. I can't be bothered to rummage for clothes cos I'm quite lazy.

Love it so much. Favourite finds lately have been a Kew jumper, gorgeous bright red blouse ( Max jeans?), Converse in a fab shade of blue with cork insoles, Scion homeware, New Balance gymwear, fab CK thin bamboo socks, By Nature toiletries, Converse sunnies. Loads more if I had the money!

I bought an amazing blue cashmere knitted scarf today for £11, plus my favourite Prestat truffles half price and a lovely card for £1.99. Still love it!

It often seems full of their own brand stuff rather than genuine reductions on brands. Having said that the sports section in the new year had some good offers.

I used to love TK Maxx. Granted you needed to have a good rummage b found some fab stuff in there over the last ten years or so. I bobbed into my local store last weekend, first visit for about 3 months, and I was shocked. The place was half empty, it looked like they were closing down they had such little stock.

I go for the beauty stuff mostly
I got an Anne Klein dress for £14 that fits like a glove though (see pic and ignore mess!)
And a merrell wool coat

See I used to get amazing stuff in there. Really good basics like jeans and Lycra tops too.

Now nothing.

Kew closed in 2012 - they can't still be selling old stock

I buy bits now and then. Grobags and kids stuff - tbh I think the grobags are made for TK Maxx not old styles

I agree. I only bother with the homeware stuff now. The kids clothes are now crap quality and washes badly. I bought a gro bag and the zip broke after a couple of uses.

They definitely are still selling Kew..

Really? I've recently had some Zoe Karrsen tshirts, a gorgeous Versace bag for peanuts and Neom candles. It must depend on which branch?

Still finding good stuff in the one near me
Some of the cashmere is lovely but others awful quality and can come up very short
Cheap merino wool items
Bought a jaeger wallet for DS yesterday £23 - saw it previously in the outlet for £65
I have small feet so am often lucky there as well
We also have a separate home sense which is far too tempting

I bought a pair of Mark Jacobs boots for £19, they were on the clearance section with rrp £280 - so I love TK Maxx

I got purely for the neom candles. Found a lovely cashmere jumper just before Christmas though.

Totally depends on the store I think - I have three locally and they all have completely different stock. One always has heavily reduced gold label stuff, but no full price gold label, ever. Another feels most like a "normal shop" and is pretty much entirely own labels. I'd love to know how they allocate stock to stores tbh.

I love the home stuff and the foody bits. I find some great clothes online, recently got a wonderful snuggly alpaca and wool cardigan that I love so much I seriously considered buying a second one as a back up in case anything happens to it (came to my senses, but if they reduce it a bit more I will grab it again!)

Must admit I don't bother with the scrum that is clothes but I've picked up over the last few months:
Neom and This works candles
Cowshed shower gel and body lotion
Elizabeth Arden serums
Illamasqua nail varnishes
Opi nail varnishes
Nars palette
Load of Denby kitchenware
Kate Spade handbag
CK underwear
Original Penguin shirts/polo shirts
Emma bridgewater mugs and plates

...not all for me, lots went on Christmas gifts!
Also picked up Marc Jacobs original perfume £50 instead of £80 which I was thrilled with as I always talk myself out of it, even though it's my favourite scent.
I guess it depends where you are, I'm in London and go to the Long Acre one, Colliers Wood, Clapham and Croydon ones and they are always full of good stuff.

Store to store varies. Once upon a time I found real bargains, but alas no more. Lots of makes I haven't heard etc. Bags, brollies, homeware and kids dressing up outfits is where it's at now.

The one nearest me is fab. Regularly has stock with NAP tags on. I got a Herve Leger dress for £200 last year. Last time I went in there were Stella and Fendi bags, Equipment shirts, DVF dresses etc.

Would you be prepared to share which one this is?
Thanks Katy

I struggle to shop anywhere else for clothes now.

For instance if I want a top - size 12 - they are all there in one place.

I go somewhere else and I have to traipse looking round the whole store to make sure I have seen all the tops. Whats not to love about all items being in one place?

They must have downgraded my store then. Pity - I used to be a huge fan and was always singing their praises.

TK Maxx is all about serendipity: an open mind, not a list. Then it's fun.

As an aside, I just had a look on their website and they have a Jil Sander Navy cardigan/top (you can see the label) described as "Yoox". Given that Yoox is a high-end etailer (iirc owns NAP?) then that gives you an idea of where they get stock from!
