I love coats, I have many in fact, it's my 1 weakness. But not 1 single 1 of them actually suit my shape and I have no idea where to even start. My go to places are usually Joules/oasis/warehouse but I can't seem to find anything in them.

Ideally I want a casual smart type that can go with trainers/boots for the school run as well. My current one is black from oasis pea coat type except I was asked if i was pregnant in it the other day, so now obviously I hate it.

Im a size 14, 5 foot 5. I carry all my weight on my belly Sad, I usually go for short jacket types or mid length styles, sometimes a belt makes me actually look pregnant but I feel i need the belt to pull it in a bit and stop it looking a bit moo moo style on me.

Help a potato out will you, Ill be ever so grateful Smile

I bought this in black -

www.johnlewis.com/four-seasons-city-coat/p2973910?colour=Red

I am quite the potato but this is really flattering. I paid full price and it's now in the sale Angry

Thanks for replying.

I do like the style, but try to avoid pockets on the hips area as they seem to widen me - Im so awkward when it comes to clothes, im completely the wrong shape to wear normal clothing items!

Also should probably add my budget is around £50 - £100, with it hopefully being nearer the botto figure Smile

I have a lovely cocoon type coat do you think that would suit? It looks great with fitted bottoms (skinnies mainly) and because it's so voluminous there's no way of telling if you have a tummy!

I was going to suggest a cocoon coat, too!

Seconds to Jaeger - I bought a long grey soft wool coat from one of their outlet stores about 10 years ago and it's as good as the day I bought it. It's uber smart even with leggings and boots on, super soft and warm and I just love how it makes me feel when I wear it. My other everyday coat is a Jack Wolfskin parka, it's ultra light fabric in black and thigh length. It's shaped so very flattering and I think it was around £99. It's warm for dog walking even with just a t shirt underneath but smart enough to wear with skirts or trousers and it was perfect for travelling in as so lightweight.

I'm in love with that super dry coat, the colours, the style. I think we may have found a winner 😍😍, thank you twostep I'd never have thought to look there.

Plus I live in skinnie's and boots ☺ so perfect combo. Hope it's as nice in rl, going to have a quick search of cocoon coats but think I may end up ordering that 1.

I knew mn was the place to get help if your a potato 😂

Jaeger. They do slightly fitted coats that are totally flattering. Best bargains in the sale! Full price is expensive. I would look for a single row of buttons and what I would call a crombie style. V neck and just at the knee. It is a classic style and look for darker colours. No to a belt in my view. A sleeker style of coat makes you look taller, smarter and thinner!

Thankyou all, Yes bojoro thats what im aiming for, taller, smarter and thinner! I do suit v neck, so perhaps a cocoon coat is what I should have been looking for after all and never knew it.

I've ordered the superdry one, there was a few on john lewis that I liked the style of from hobbs but it was purple, and Id really like to splash out on a classic coloured coat I can wear for a few years, rather than something i'd be bored with in a few months.

Im lucky enough to live near an outlet village too so if this superdry coat isn't up to scratch Ill take a trip there to visit the jaeger outlet

Coat arrived today - and was packaged up ready to be returned within 5 minutes Sad. Maybe it was the 2 tone but the top half made me look wider and the bottom bit just clung to my bum. It was also very thin made of scratchy wool.

So back to square 1 still searching for something to keep me warm & stylish that doesn't widen/shorten/fatten me... Mission impossible!
