Help me decide what to wear to parents' 50th anniversary?

Hello!

My parents are holding their golden wedding anniversary party in a few weeks and I haven't got a clue what to wear. It's being held at a golf club, catered with a photographer and some sort of country dancing(!!!)

I'm 35, 5'6 and a size 12. This will be the first time I've seen a lot of our extended family since getting divorced so I want to look good, but not overdone as it is just a family party at the end of the day!

I only usually have two speeds - totally casual jeans and tops or out and out event type dresses. I feel this party will be somewhere in the middle!

Help?!

A dress is probably in order, or smart trousers and an evening top and heels.

I'd dress up, partly because I don't like to pass up any opportunity and partly because how many of us make it to a 50th anniversary? I think that's more special than a wedding.

Floisme I totally agree! I know my mum probably won't dress up much tho, she's very low key!
I think a smart top/trousers might be a good idea, although I definitely do not own the latter. I often see willowy young models looking amazing in those ankle grazing cigarette leg trousers, but I am very hippy with the bum to match.
What's a flattering trouser style for that shape? Please don't say bootcut! Grin

Boot cut trousers will look very old fashioned . Cigarette / slim is the way forward. These velvet ones are lovely and if you are curvy then make sure the top is fitted and strapping shoes with make the look more dressy !

I prefer dresses for a family party as I don't fit into trousers. I'd go for a short dress, maybe something like this, as the velvet makes it too smart for work, but the print makes it a bit more day. Oasis also do lots in this sort of style. You could dress down with some opaques and over the knee boots. Boots would stay on your feet for the dancing.

Cigarette trousers silky top and a blazer would be my outfit of choice for this, with killer heals or pointed embellished flat shoes ( or indeed both if there is a need to do dancing and the like)

For the trousers, I really like boden 7/8 try both the ponte ones (which I think are great and would be my first choice for almost anything) and the cotton ones
