Anyone got positive experiences of minoxidil for hair loss?

I've been going thin on top for years and experienced such severe shedding when I came of the pill that I'm now wearing a hair system. However, the hair loss has worsened recently due to the traction from the hair system and I'm wondering whether minoxidil might help stimulate a bit of growth around the temples.

Anyone using minoxidil and finding it effective? Are there any downsides from using it?

Thanks!

I've used minoxidil for hair loss for the past 4 years. It was prescribed by a derm. I use the men's foam once a day. I don't think it has been terribly effective for me and as I hate having to use it, I am about to stop it. I've previously felt reluctant to stop as I thought it would cause more hair loss from the shock of stopping. I would say it could be worth a try, but prepare for long-term use as any results go when you stop using it.

How do you find the hair system?

Thanks so much for your response. That's exactly what I was afraid of with minoxidil - finding it a hassle then feeling trapped into continuing with it.

The system is mostly great, although it's not 100% realistic. Massively better than my own hair though!

It's just when I take it off at night (it's a clip in one). I get quite self conscious in front on my husband about the bald spots caused by the clips.

I too where a clip in hair system and have had the problem of traction patches particularly when I have new clips (just had a new set). I remove the wig whenever possible or simply undo the clips while wearing a Alice band for extra security. Obviously this is only possible inside but it helps. Sometimes I just loosen one or two clips.
As for Monoxidil like Jointhejoyrun I have been using Monoxidil but am doubtful of its effectivness. I stopped using it for a while due to another medical treatment and it didn't seem to make any difference. My hair goes in very noticeable cycles. I'm like my dog hair grows back in the winter and sheds as sheds in the spring. I need to break or at least slow this pattern so the loss is more evenly spread and from what I have read Monoxidil will not help break it and could be making it worse.

I used it for six months and didn't notice any difference. I have now stopped.

I have and have found it great- but you need to keep using it regularly. I stopped during pregnancy and bf and the hairloss returned. It is now slowly growing back

It was gradual hairloss when I have taken a break from it (have been using it on and off for about 8yrs). I have never been left with less hair than I started with.
