Mascara - Benefit They're Real making marks under eyes

Can anyone recommend a mascara that is similar to Benefit's They're Real! but which won't leave splodges on my face under my eyes? I don't really have a budget - I only wear mascara a few times a week so don't mind splurging.

I'm very pale so I need a brown mascara which seems to really limit my options. I've been trying to persevere with the Benefit one but I'm sick of continually having to wipe under my eyes.

Alternatively if anyone has any tips about stopping the marks, that'd be fantastic!

Thank you!

I'm the same colouring as you and brown mascaras are hard to find. I've worn L'Oreal mascaras for years - have never been that bothered by which one I've just bought whatever I've found available in brown and have never had any trouble with any of them smudging underneath eye.

I read good reviews about the Benefit mascara and decided to give it a go. It smudges on me too but what I hate more than anything is that it is really difficult to get off - even using the proper Benefit remover.

I'm using a Mac brown mascara at the moment - don't know what its called but it's in a pinky case and has a brush either end. I love it! The only time it smudges is if my eyes have been particularly watery. I'd definitely buy it again - even though it's more expensive that the L'Oreal ones.

I think mascaras are really difficult to recommend as what suits one person doesn't always suit another and the fact you're looking for a brown mascara really limits the options

Maybe try a waterproof one if it's smudging? Or a tubing formula like Blinc.

What is happening with Benefit? My entire make up bag used to be stuffed with it a few years back now the only thing left is their fake up concealer. Is it my ageing skin or have they gone to the dogs?

I switched from They're Real to Mac false lashes extreme black but as far as I know it comes in brown too.

Spoiled for choice there ... on-line is obviously the way to go.

It's virtually impossible to find a brown mascara where I live in the cheaper ranges especially and a lot of the black/brown and brown/black ones too dark for me

Thanks for that link. I'll have a look through and see if any fit the bill.

I really like that the Benefit one is a tubing-type mascara and so my lashes aren't stiff when I'm wearing it, so I'd like to replace it with a similar one, but I'm sick of the smudging. Plus, as you say,* the removal is a real pain. Benefit have definitely gone down hill,* it used to be really well recommended but I've heard several people say they've given up buying it recently.

I tried Blinc a while ago and it was lovely, but I'd prefer a bit more 'impact' if you know what I mean? My lashes are invisible without mascara on so, it was brilliant for a very natural look, but fairly useless for anything else.

I'll have a look for the MAC one, if you're pale too, Milly, I'll stand a chance of it not being too dark.

I'm limited to online, so obscure brands are fine - you can't buy a brown mascara in the shop here for love nor money!

Pfft, bold fail! Serves me right for trying to reply on my phone, cook dinner and supervise a two year old.

Op could it be that your under eye area is too moist? Ha e you tried a new eye cream lately? Do you put foundation under your eyes?

Too Faced Better Than Sex, it's amazing. It also comes in waterproof, I love it!

OP I had exactly the same problem, and I LOVE They're Real.

But, I've solved it.

I got some of this undereye setting powder from ELF, less than a fiver, and I just dust it under my eyes & no more smudging.

I assume they smudge because the foundation/concealer is "wet", and this dries it? I have no idea of the science, but it works

I don't wear foundation, but I do sometimes put a bit of concealer under my eyes, so that could be causing it? I hadn't considered that it was anything I was putting on...

I've ordered some of that powder, Biscuit, thank you! Do you put it on after you've done your concealer and mascara etc?

Hopefully it will fix it because the mascara is good otherwise.

I've never got on with that mascara at all. I like tubing mascaras and have a few. I wear Clinique Lash Power on a daily basis in brown. If I'm going out I use Mia Adora 3D Fibre Lash mascara (from Amazon) but it's black. That mascara is brilliant but too much faff for me on a daily basis.
